Recently, I had the pleasure to be interviewed for a podcast by Douglas Coleman of the Mexico Mining Center. I spoke on behalf of Orex Minerals Inc. (TSXV: REX) (OTCQX: ORMNF) about Orex's projects and history as well as the Belcarra Group of companies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhmkEAaL30s

More gold and silver has been intercepted in diamond drilling at the El Rubi prospect on Silver Viper Minerals Corporation (TSXV: VIPR)’s La Virginia project in Sonora, Mexico. Of particular interest to me is the new discovery of a broad mineralized zone of 110.5 metres core length (55.2 m estimated true thickness) assaying 38 g/t Ag and 0.76 g/t Au. I wish to thank our Silver Viper field exploration team, the Belcarra Group management staff, as well as the contract drillers from Globexplore. FLASHBACK - Anaconda The year was 1996 and the place was deep in the upper Amazon jungles near the border between Bolivia and Brazil. I was consulting on an exp...loration program for gold on the San Simon Project in the Beni Department, northeastern Bolivia, for Southern Star Resources Inc.. One of the traditional ways to explore is to send out teams to pan for ‘colours’ minute specks of gold in the heavy mineral train in a gold pan. Two prospectors would pan locations every 50 metres along a stream bed and in the gravels at the mouths of adjacent tributaries. We would plot up the colours count as a way to vector into target areas. One prospector was just setting up to pan his sample when he heard a strangled scream from his partner down stream. While squatting and concentrating on the sample in his pan, the second prospector failed to notice a giant Anaconda snake had uncurled from the dense brush behind him and had descended on his position. The snake’s spotted green and brown colouration allows it to blend in with the environment. The snakes are semi-aquatic and can move rapidly in the stream. The Anaconda quickly started to wrap around the little guy, with the intent to kill, then swallow its prey whole. The mouth was open wide on the back of his head, teeth near his ear to swallow him head first, when his partner arrived on the run, machete in hand. Several quick chops and he was free. Shaking like a leaf, the two of them walked back and entered camp with their harrowing story. Several fellows in camp jumped into one of the Toyota Hilux 4x4 pickups and we drove as close to the site as possible. They returned to the stream, gathered round and picked up the massive carcass, then struggled to carry it out of the jungle. Back in camp, they tied a rope around the head of the snake, slung it over a tree limb and started the skinning process. The skin of an Anaconda is valuable. During this process, I took a measurement of the length at 27 feet (8.3 metres), as well as a few photographs. The Beni Anaconda is a sub-species of the giant green Anaconda. We had Anaconda steaks on the barbeque that evening. Genus: Eunectes Species: Eunectes beniensis (Beni or Bolivian anaconda). For those who may ask, the Eunectes beniensis is not an endangered species.

Hello Friends and Colleagues. This is one of the initiatives I have been pushing in my professional community. ------------------------------------------------... Mineral Exploration Companies Donating Emergency Supplies The mineral exploration and mining industry is a sector of our economy with far reaching effects. It is often the principal employer in remote communities and is the number one employer for the First Nations indigenous population. Exploration this year will be delayed, if not drastically curtailed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. What a group of us through the Association for Mineral Exploration (AME) in British Columbia are trying to do is to reach out and help those communities. "Essential supplies and personnel are needed to create and operate temporary facilities for testing, triage, housing and isolation area for vulnerable populations," says Kendra Johnson, President and CEO of AME. "As mineral explorers, we have access to the supplies needed and we are in a unique position to help." AME has put out a call to mining and exploration companies to donate supplies, equipment and personnel to help out with the COVID-19 pandemic and the industry has responded. https://biv.com//mineral-exploration-companies-donating-em It is important to work together. Stay safe and healthy. Ben Whiting, P.Geo. KStG

"Mining Lamp Shadows of the Past" - This old mining lamp, mounted on a piece of lignite coal, comes from the coal mines of Rudnik Lignita Velenje, Slovenia. The miners would hang these lamps from rock bolts along the underground drifts, casting shadows along the passageways.

This past week I had an opportunity to chat with geologist Alex Burton, who as a young man had worked during the 1950s in the Torbrit Mine of the Dolly Varden Mining District, British Columbia, Canada. He told me several of his stories from drilling and prospecting during the 1957 exploration season. In the winter they explored and mapped as mine geologists underground, but with the melting of the snow came hiking of the rugged hills and mountains of the Kitsault region. Clinton Smyth had given to me a copy of the history book "Steel Rails and Silver Dreams", written by D.E. Muralt, for me to pass on to Alex. Within the first dozen pages, Alex saw a photograph of someone he once knew.
