Get your children out, get yourself out... just get outside and fall in with !!!... there are so many lessons for self and humanity out there in the wild!!! #getouttogoin #earthday #eartdayeveryday #lovenature #wildatheart #wildernessyoga Repost from @awilderchild #Happy Earth Day! I love the celebration this day represents, but I also have mixed feelings about it. My hope is that as our adult fears continue to rise in us concerning the future of our planet - that we ...don’t project that fear onto the young children in our lives. Before the nine year change, it’s so important that children get to develop a relationship with Mother Earth....one that is build on beauty, joy and connection. Yes, responsibility too but that can be gently modeled and scaffolded as they grow together. No matter how much we want our children to be stewards and advocates, respect for the child means that we allow them time and space to come into their own bodies, minds and place in this world and paradigm. In the words of David Sobel, If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it. It’s also important to note that there are so many children for whom this slow, intentional approach is just not possible. It’s a privledge to have an clean, safe environment that doesn’t already wear the scars of environmental destruction (often visible and purposefully placed where the poorest and most vulnerable live). So I hold that space for my children with awareness and a grateful heart. #Wildschooling #earthday #wilderchild #giveyourselftime #letthembelittle #slowchildhood See more

Do the inside work... outside Posted @withrepost @fuelyourawesome Just because your practical contains a sun salutation doesn’t mean it’s yoga. Just because you decide not to do some sun salutations doesn’t make it NOT yoga!!! A yoga practice is something that exists in movement and in stillness- in a way you show up in relationship with self and others... THAT is the practice! #dotheworknotthehandstand #dothehandstandtoo #8limbsofyoga #fuelawesome #playandbestill #wildernessyoga #yogaisaninsidejob

70% of the planet is water ... 70% of the human body is made up of water... When we take shapes, we lose essence of our fluid nature. Allow your practice to remind you of your fluid roots. Let it be movement based rather than pose-centric. Let your practice be a means of connection with self and the Earth. This is the true essence of a yoga practice... not all the crazy shapes and stunts that one can do with their body, but rather a practice centered around embracing your true nature. ********** #yogateachertraining #ytt200 #nature #getouttogoin #wildernessculture #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #yogainthewild #wildernessyogaschool #naturetherapy

YES YES YES!! Know the body and move consciously! Posted @withrepost @jenni_rawlings It’s becoming more widely-understood these days that it’s the *strength & capacity of our tissues* that prevents injuries in yoga - not arbitrary alignment rules. . . . Just so we’re all on the same page, let’s remember that an *injury* is what happens when a load exceeds the capacity of our tissues to handle that load.... . . . Therefore in order to prevent injury, we want to increase our tissues’ *capacity*, so that all sorts of loads can be tolerated. . . . And we do this through *strengthening* our tissues - not through holding our body in arbitrary ideal alignments all the time. . . . I feel like the yoga world is starting to come around to this modern approach to the body & injury-prevention in yoga... But we sometimes forget these insights when we proclaim with certainty that other yogis will inevitably injure themselves in certain poses due to their bad alignment. . . . (We make these claims alllll the time in the yoga world - I even sometimes do it myself without thinking too! ) . . . But remember: injury is about LOAD, not about alignment. And the human body is very resilient, and our tissues *adapt* to the loads they’re exposed to - regardless of which alignment we’re in. (Especially in low-load activities like yoga!) . . . Additionally, injury, tissue damage, and pain are all very complex topics that are far from black-and-white. . . . YES, we might want to align our body in a certain way in a pose to receive the particular strengthening benefits we’re after . . . But that doesn’t mean that aligning in a different or bad way means inevitable injury - and when we proclaim and predict so, we potentially create nocebos for other people that can ironically *create* pain for them. . . . This is really a huge topic that can’t be thoroughly addressed in a caption, but the takeaway is: let’s consider not declaring that other people are destined for injury based on their alignment. . . . I know this is a big request to make of the yoga community, but it’s truly the evidence-based approach. Can we focus on the *positives* without fearmongering about imaginary neg See more
