It's that beautiful time of the year. The Banff Mountain Film Festival is making it’s round once again. This year, like everything else, will be a little different. Due to provincial guidelines and some common sense, we won't be hosting the festival in a physical space this year. The BMFF will be an online exclusive - a couch festival if you will. You can enjoy all the films from across the many genres of outdoor sport and culture from the comfort, and safety, of your own hom...e. What a year 2020 was. Kieran, Jon, our staff and I want to thank you for choosing to shop at Wild Rock. We are very aware that you have many options when it comes to shopping. In March, along with most, we watched our world go off kilter and it scared the heck out of us. We were not sure if year 29 was our last or just a tough one. There was a lot of hustle over the next few months as we re-invented ourselves. There was also a lot of soul searching. Kieran, Jon and my resumes... are very thin; having started the business when we were 24 years old, we don’t have a lot of references. Partly due to luck we are still here. The outdoors was never shut down and being told to go out and play was supported by most. As we have morphed over the last 8 months we have made some deliberate choices about the business we want to be. We want to continue to support people going outside and enjoying nature and being active. We want to remain local. We want to become a modern hybrid brick and mortar/e-commerce business. We want to be a rewarding, fun place to work that attracts the best talent. We want to foster responsible shopping by offering products produced in a lower impact fashion that last a long time. Buy better and buy less. But, enough about us. Our community needs healing. We have more disadvantaged people than ever in our community. Mental health, addiction and bad things happening to good people abound. Every story on the street is different, and we strongly support facing these issues head on. We can’t sweep these issues under the carpet and build gated communities to hide from these problems. We need to roll up our sleeves and open our hearts and wallets. We fully support the safe injection site that is less than 250m from our business. We know firsthand as we have lost two past employees to overdoses. If efforts require more money, we support our business paying more taxes. We have put our support into the YES Shelter to help young people and families. We live and work downtown and are seeing more suffering and homelessness now than any time since we started in 1992. Please do what you can and don’t just say not in my backyard. Around the world both manufacturers and retailers are struggling to keep up, but, if our projections are correct, there will continue to be huge shortages in bikes next year.... In Trek, Cannondale, Cervelo and Santa Cruz we have the very best industry partners at our disposal. In each case our partners have given retailers insight into forecast production dates for all models of bikes for the 2021 season. As we watch these forecasts extend or sell out outright it has become very clear to us that in order to get the bikes you, our customer, want, we will need to place individual orders this fall to ensure delivery for next spring.
