Loss of Appetite / Gut Symptoms Over and over again, the seminal work of Drs. Janet Travell and David Simons, has profoundly improved the quality of life to those suffering with chronic symptoms.

Wow it’s already 11 years since our very first WHM, Level 1 certification workshop. It was a memorable 5 days with these very first (4) nerds that wanted to learn more about Trigger Point therapy and help people overcome their chronic pain. Since then we have certified many more and have been fortunate to share the seminal work of Travell and Simons’ via CE workshops all over the world. Due to COVID, the live classroom workshops are postponed, but online workshops are ...currently being developed and hopefully they will be available by next month or January 2021. For online workshop details, or general inquiries, please visit our website www.triggerpoint.ca Thanks for your time

Myofascial trigger points are well known for their ability to create referred pain (and non-pain) symptoms. But there’s more to MTrPs than simply referral patterns. The continuous muscle tension caused by MTrPs can and often do effect adjacent nerves, arteries and veins. Trigger points in the sartorius muscle (shown in blue) and/or vastus intermedius can cause compression of the adductor canal (subsartorial or Hunter’s canal). This compression of the canal might impede vein...ous return and/or restrict arterial flow causing distal circulation issues. As well, compression of the saphenous nerve as it passes through the Hunter’s canal is also a possibility, with resulting neuropathy. If your client is experiencing swelling or poor circulation issues, numbness or weakness in the lower leg, ankle or foot, you may want to check the sartorius and vastus intermedius for MTrPs. If found then treatment is indicated. Remember to also follow TPT protocols to maximize efficacy. This post is not medical advice. Only doctors diagnose health issues, and your client may have other, possibly serious health issues that require a doctors attention Thanks for your time.

If you’re suffering from ongoing shoulder (joint) issues, you may be getting incorrect treatment advice. If TrPs are involved then exercising these rotator cuff muscles is NOT advisable. In fact it’s completely the wrong thing to do These TrP involved muscles cannot build strength, and the stress that exercise adds to their already compromised state, makes the condition worse... or at the very least, perpetuates the symptoms. Trigger Point protocol is to allow the involv...ed muscles to rest, and remove the TrPs. Once removed and the symptoms are no longer present then a rehab-style exercise program may begin. This TPT protocol applies to all muscles. Remember - as a general rule we do NOT ice the TrP involved muscles. Contact us if you’d like more information about comprehensive trigger Point therapy Thanks for your time.

Some good news for the Fraser Valley

Post-concussion syndrome is a complex disorder. The symptoms often include headaches and dizziness. These symptoms can last for weeks and sometimes months after the injury that caused the concussion. I have successfully treated several clients who have been suffering with post-concussion syndrome (PCS).... These clients were complaining of headache, dizziness/vertigo, and blurry vision. For the brain to be concussed, there is typically a concomitant traumatic event to the neck the neck muscles have essentially suffered a whiplash injury. Treatment begins with a client consultation to confirm the medical diagnosis and rule-out any other potential brain/CNS concerns or contraindications. I then treat post-concussion syndrome as a whiplash injury. Actually, I prefer using the term whiplash syndrome. If you compare PCS and whiplash signs/symptoms, there is more than a few similarities. Trigger points are usually found in the following muscles sternocleidomastoid (SCM), splenius capitis, suboccipitals, levator scapulae, upper trapezius, and scalenes. I might also treat any trigger points that are often found in the temporalis and masseter muscles. The results can be impressive. One teenage soccer player (a client of mine) who suffered a concussion during a game had cessation of PCS symptoms after one treatment. Other clients received 2 or 3 treatments before remedying the PCS. I know these few clinical results do not confirm anything conclusive, but I’d be willing to bet that most folks who are suffering from post-concussion syndrome would have similar results. At least when it comes to the vision, headaches, and dizziness symptoms. I’d be interested to know if any other body work professionals have had similar successes. Thanks for your time. William Post-concussion symptoms include: Headaches Dizziness Fatigue Irritability Anxiety Insomnia Loss of concentration and memory Ringing in the ears Blurry vision Noise and light sensitivity Rarely, decreases in taste and smell

IMHO, far too many medical professionals are unaware of myofascial-sourced symptoms that include chronic pain. It's encouraging to see doctors, NPs, and other medical folks attend our Trigger Point workshops. "I had the pleasure of attending/participating in a Trigger Point Workshop presented by William Huhn. This approach to Myofascial and Trigger Point related pain management was innovative and stimulating. I particularly enjoyed the hands-on session and the opportunity ...to become familiar with the applied techniques for the release of trigger points. The progression in my reading and knowledge from Clair Davies’ Workbooks to Travell and Simons’ texts that was stimulated by this workshop has been very rewarding. All medical practitioners dealing with pain would benefit from such a course." Dr. K.W. Turnbull, MD, FRCPC Vancouver, BC Keep in mind, the objective of comprehensive TPT is to remedy the symptoms. Thanks for your time.

To my clients - we'd all like to do our part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Please be advised, we always disinfect all contact surfaces including face cradle, all door handles, washroom fixtures, between client visits. We also, as always, disinfect all our sheets and other linens for your protection. However, if you are feeling under the weather, or have recently travelled, or have been in contact with someone who's travelled recently, or been in large public gatherings,... please consider postponing your appointment for a couple weeks. Lets all stay healthy... and wash your hands often.

We've posted this illustration before, but it can't be stressed enough. Bone goes where muscle pulls it. And established TrPs will cause the involved muscle(s) to continually pull on their boney (tendinous) attachments.... This chronic TrP-caused tension could apply pulling forces on the cranium, ribs, scapulae, spine, and the pelvis to name a few. This tension will also affect the involved joints, contributing to arthritic symptoms and perhaps pinched nerve symptoms. If these TrPs are not removed from the involved muscles, then attempts to remedy bone misalignment and/or joint tension, will likely be ineffective. Thanks for your time.

How's your high performance machine operating? All machines, especially high performance machines, require regular inspection and maintenance. And to avoid damage to other components, they also require attention as soon as issues are noticed.... Ignoring the issues could lead to costly repairs and/or operational failure.

Some decisions must be made well in advance. Due to the increasing cases of COVID-19, and our desire to not contract, nor help spread this virus, nor make last minute cancellations - we have decided to reschedule our Toronto workshop from this May, to Sept/Oct 2020. Full refunds have been sent to all registrants and certainly hope we can all meet up in Toronto this Fall.... Thanks for your understanding. So far, our Vancouver BC, 5-modules presentation is still scheduled for May 30/31. If things change, we will advise. Stay healthy. Wash your hands often.

Effective treatment for Fibromyalgia. I've stated many times - there's so much more to real Trigger Point Therapy than simply using a ball or roller.

I love the Visible Body apps. They've been very helpful over the years, not only with solving some of the complex, challenging client cases, but also as a continual refresh of anatomy.

Perhaps you run? Do you suffer from Achilles tendon issues or plantar foot pain? Tibialis Posterior... This muscle is crucial to check for TrPs if you have Achilles tendon issues, heel pain, or plantar foot / plantar toe pain. Remember - ALL muscles between the knee and ankle are (extrinsic) foot muscles and should ALWAYS be checked/treated when there's complaint of foot/ankle pain. AND importantly, be sure to follow TP protocol to allow the involved muscle to return to normal function. To understand muscle location, TrP locations, be sure to check all 5 photos. Thanks for your time. __________________ REFERRED PAIN from myofascial trigger points (TrPs) in the tibialis posterior muscle concentrates proximally over the Achilles tendon above the heel. A spillover pattern extends from the TrP down over the calf, the entire heel, and the plantar surface of the foot and toes.
