Willow Creek Stables 14.01.2021

We have reviewed all the rules with the new restrictions in place and we can do visits for a maximum of 4 people with one barn member being your guide. We understand the strong need for people to get outside and our front line workers to destress. We are making changes to ensure that we can completely adhere to the Covid restrictions in place and do our part to keep everyone safe at the same time provide some much needed stress relief. Farm Visit are a great educational expe...rience for the whole family. Come and find out why our critically endangered Newfoundland Ponies are so special! With so many events cancelled or postponed due to COVID 19 we know families are looking for safe opportunities to get outside and enjoy Winter . We are now open for farm visits. We love to share the story of our critically endangered Newfoundland Ponies with you. Come out and learn why they are critically endangered and what is being done to protect them. We are asking people to message or call or text ahead of time so we can safely limit the numbers of people visiting the ponies at one time. Hand sanitizer is available in the barn and outhouse. All commonly touched surfaces are sanitized between visitors such as lead ropes, brushes, door handles and gates. We do not charge a fee for farm visits but donations to our rescue program are always welcomed and greatly appreciated! We have rescued 20 in 2020 and could not do it without your help. Farm visits typically last about an hour with the ponies. We take you in to the paddock where you can meet each pony as we share their story. It’s an opportunity to be surrounded by friendly ponies who enjoys pets and scratches. We do offer pony rides and can provide helmets. They are washed between guests. Don’t let the winter cold keep you home! Our Newfoundland Ponies love the winter! Message us through Facebook or email: [email protected] or call or text 613-464-1571 to book your farm visits. As we are a non profit rescue facility we both work full time. We offer farm visits in the evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday, Mondays. Closed toed shoes or boots must be worn at the farm! Please share with anyone who might be interested. We are located just outside of Perth Ontario. 2351 Christie Lake Road.

Shalloway’s Wind in the Willows aka Willy / Wilson! Wilson is 2 1/2 and just dying for a job. He looks so smart in a saddle and he knows it. We need to wait for Willy to finish growing and filling out before he can accept a rider but we know this guy is going to be great! With so much personality and spunk he will be a fun pony but he also has a pretty good head on his shoulders. You can’t help but love our silly Willy. Josie will have to maintain a good sense of humour when she finally starts riding her baby boy. Newfoundland Pony #851; critically endangered

As Moonlight & Sweetie continue to make progress we are so grateful to all those who have and continue to support their journey. We got to host a Birthday party over the weekend for a wonderful young lady named Sam. Sam and her friends had a great time riding ponies and enjoying the farm, running through fields and checking out the big horses and our feathered friends. Pony parties are the gift that keeps giving as all proceeds from pony parties go right back to our rescues! Sam’s party will help pay for Sweetie and Moonlight’s hoof corrections next week. We have vet and farrier all lined up to get these two ponies walking free of pain! We appreciate all the wonderful families who have chosen to have pony parties with us. Moonlight and Sweetie say a big thank you too! We can’t wait to see Happy Feet on these two!

Wayne’s Sweetie loves her face scratches! She leans her head right into his chest. So heartwarming to see her starting to trust and respond positively to human touch. Wayne says she really is a Sweetie she just doesn’t know it yet. She is the prettiest of ponies!

Animals are like little angels sent to earth to teach us how to love. They don't get angry or play silly games. They are always there for us.

That cute nose belongs to Wayne’s Sweetie! I guess you can say she is getting closer to us by the day. Realistically she is still very scared and will turn her back to you as soon as she is feeling afraid but she is spending more time taking chances on us and not being afraid. These are our small victories. Tonight she hung out in the barn and listened to music while Wayne was working on restoration of the old sleigh. Sweetie Better days ahead!

We are trying to build awareness with animal protection agencies to allow these critically endangered ponies to be fostered and rehomed by Newfoundland Pony rescue centres and sanctuaries or the Newfoundland Pony Society rehoming committee. The risk is that these endangered breeds go to homes who are unaware of their historical and genetic significance and we lose valuable breeding stock. With only a few hundred breeding ponies in existence their status form critically endangered to extinction is a definite possibility.

Failure to offer the basic necessities of life like food and water isn’t that uncommon unfortunately. This has been a particularly heartbreaking year for the amount of ponies and horses we have seen go through our doors. I believe the fundamental problem is people view animals as property and do not respect them as the living, breathing, feeling and deserving of our protection. We fully expect as this pandemic continues there will be a much greater need for animal rescue. The...se ponies were taken away the winter before last which shows how slow the wheels of justice work in this country and as far as when know two ponies starved to death there. We have a long ways to go when it comes to animal rights in this country and please do not fool yourself to think that this is only happening on the Island because of a lack of funding. The worst cases of pony abuse we have seen have been right here in Ontario! See more
