In order to learn to read, a child must have good oral language skills, something people are often unaware of. Reading to your child every day can help develop language skills and help your child be ready for reading. Children typically need five years of consistent daily reading in order to have the skills necessary to start reading. #DLDawarenessday #RADLD #speechtherapy #speechlanguagetherapy #speech #albertaspeechtherapy #calgaryspeech

Did you know that October 16th is Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Awareness Day? DLD is diagnosed when children fail to acquire language with there being no obvious reason for this difficulty. On average, about 2 children in every classroom have DLD. Speech-language pathologists can help. #RADLD

This post by a speech-language pathologist touched me. She and others like her who work in acute care, help surviving COVID-19 patients to talk and eat again, and later to regain their critical thinking skills. These speech-language pathologists are truly unsung health heroes. Please share to raise awareness of these extraordinary SLP's during this pandemic, and their role in helping COVID victims regain vital skills!

Its good that speech-language pathologists are on the list of most at-risk workers, outlined in the attached article. As much as I love to see my clients in person, I am so happy and grateful that I can continue to see them face-to-face online through teletherapy. Since speaking and breathing emit COVID-19 virus particles, and we work so closely with our clients, it is safer for us all to have therapy online. Online therapy is effective and fun and it is working really well, even for my youngest clients, the 1 and 2 year olds! https://www.afl.org/as_albertans_return_to_work_who_is_at_t
