Let's talk about the name "Women + Wealth." When we originally created the Gala to celebrate International Women’s Day, we needed a title! The very first one in 2016 was called Women In Investing. Investing was the focus of the event and related back to Raintree Financial Solutions’ services (our founding sponsor). After the first year, we realized there was something MUCH bigger here and we needed to expand our vision. Instead of investing, we decided that wealth in g...eneral was a better focus! In our opinion, wealth describes prosperity of all varieties. We’re wealthier when we: have more time to spend with friends and family , focus on fitness , expand our knowledge and awareness , feel spiritually balanced , are going after and achieving our goals , have money in the bank , and when we surround ourselves with people/things that truly make us happy . The idea is that in order to advance our mission of achieving gender equality, we need to create and elevate wealth for women. We believe that our events are one step towards making women wealthier ie Women + Wealth. Because of Brené Brown I’ve been inspired to show up, be seen and contribute. At the end of the day I want to look back on my life and confidently say that I ma...de a difference, no matter big or small. Public service is just that it’s a call to serve for the betterment of others but the exposure can create a very vulnerable place to be. I hope through my actions and behaviors I can continue to extend Brené’s acts of courage as a means of encouraging others to step forward. It was an honour to take part in the #BecauseOfHer campaign with Shop the Skinny and Women + Wealth -- 100% of net proceeds from these sweaters are donated to the Canadian Women's Foundation. Here is Kathie’s moving #BecauseOfHer story: "Although this woman is no longer with us in the physical sense I carry her with me in my heart everyday and all she taught me. This woman is my mother Helen Daly, she passed away suddenly in 2006. She taught me to live life and love well while you are living. She encouraged me to believe in myself and to push past my insecurities and follow my dreams. She taught me that it is okay to make a mistake. Mistakes are great teachers if you are humble enough to listen, learn and apply the lesson. She encouraged me to put family first, laugh often, work hard and to be loyal but not blind. To always be kind because you never know what a person is carrying. #BecauseOfHer I know that no matter where you are in life, whether successful or struggling it’s important to lend a hand/give back without expectation because if you expect something it’s not giving.
