Womens Art Association of Hamilton 17.01.2021

WAAH honours volunteerism at the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Pictured are members of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton who have volunteered a significant amount of their time and good will to the success of the organization. Unfortunately not all the volunteers could be present at that time, many more ladies were honoured that day.... Volunteer Awards were given out for 5 years, 10 years, 15 years and 20+ years of service. Thank you! Social Distancing: WAAH Exhibition Image: Pond Play Artist: Zorica Silverthorne... Medium: iPhone Digital Photo Finding activities to do outside the house has been an everyday challenge. When good weather days happen it's a green light for outside play. Our quarry pond holds much fascination for my son. Sneaking up on serenading frogs is his number one objective. So far it's only happened once! BRIEF BIOGRAPHY: Zorica was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, though she currently resides outside of Hagersville. She studied art at Sheridan College where she completed the Art Fundamentals Program. After which she graduated from the Interpretive Illustration Program where she focused on children’s book illustration. In 2003 she co-founded the A-Z Collective, which focuses on ideas of space, time and nature. Inspired by a variety or things such as nature, people, architecture, animals and fairy tales. Her paintings reflect her love of colour and story telling. Aiming to capture moments in time with a focus on colour, pattern, composition, whimsy and a narrative. Since becoming a mother, she has been reflecting on the nature of motherhood and how that directly affects being an artist. Living in the countryside has offered daily inspiration in the exploration of nature and our relationship with our environment. Social Distancing: WAAH Exhibition (It’s still a thing) Artist: Amanda McKinney Sparrow ... Title: Sweet Dreams Medium: Mixed Media including Homemade Paper, Photography Instagram: mckinneysparrow mckinneysparrow.blogspot.com a-zcollective.blogspot.com To view more online exhibitions by the collective artists of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton, please check out our website: www.waah.ca Growing up in the Niagara Wine region of Southern Ontario, I drew inspiration from an agricultural based community. Artwork crosses lines between the physical and philosophical. A hybrid of materials. My work leans towards environmental awareness, humanity and existence. Repurposing recyclables to create homemade paper by hand. Merging my homemade paper with acrylic paint and photography to create my own mode of expression. The materials I choose are a reaction to time and the environment in which we live. Since 2004, Recycling has been a major element in my work. The reincarnation of materials, giving ‘garbage’ a new purpose and meaning, extending its time of life. #canadianart #womensart #womeninart #arthistory #hamilton #isolationart #historicalwomenartists #livingarts #hamont #discoverhamont #discoverhamilton

Artist: Ljuba Simovic To view more online exhibitions by the collective artists of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton, please check out our website: www.waah.ca I did these two paintings in Florida since birds, especially herons, are always around us. The interesting thing is that you don't see them very often in a group, they seem to enjoy isolation. Short bio: Since my youth, I have had passion for art and have been intensely active in my artistic development. I took art courses in painting with water colours, oil, alcohol ink and in working with stained glass. Within the last seven years, I have been predominantly painting in acrylics. I have been exhibiting extensively in Southern Ontario and Florida. My paintings may be found in private collections in Europe, Canada and New Zealand. #canadianart #womensart #womeninart #arthistory #hamilton #isolationart #historicalwomenartists #livingarts #hamont #discoverhamont #discoverhamilton

Social Distancing: WAAH Exhibition Image: Bubble 2 Artist: Margaret Lindsay Holton ... 'This 'Bubble Series' began in late 2019. I felt compelled to paint these circles. In the spring of 2020, I painted the last one - with the year painted in the middle of the circle. Little did I know that, within two months, how timely those little 'isolating cells’ would become.' - mlh Bio blurb: Margaret Lindsay Holton is an award-winning Golden Horseshoe artist and author. Title: My walks of Art 39 Elgin Street Medium: ink, Promarkers, Watercolour To view more online exhibitions by the collective artists of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton, please check out our website: www.waah.ca I have been privileged to turn this time of social distancing into productive time for my creativity. In order to keep active and healthy, I take daily, 5-7km, walks around my hometown, Dundas. During my walks I take time to appreciate the beautiful architecture, I take photos of places that catch my eye and use these photos to create colourful sketches once back at home. Most of these places are historical buildings, full of stories! I started posting my sketches on the Facebook group If you grew up in Dundas you remember when... and have been flooded with comments about the history and unique stories of each of these buildings. I’ve been enjoying seeing the conversations between community members and observing people reconnecting by commenting on a specific place and recounting their memories of it. This building is located on 39 Elgin Street. Was built in 1859 by Thomas Wilson, an industrialist who bought the Gartshore Foundry in 1970 and operated it as Thomas Wilson and Co. until it closed in 1891. Size 8.5x5.5 Price: $150 All of my sketches can be found on my facebook page (My artwork album) or Instagram danuta_niton I welcome commissions of House Sketching

Social Distancing: WAAH Exhibition Artist: Zorica Silverthorne Title: Chamomile Seedlings... Medium: i phone Digital Photo I've always had an interest in plants and growing them from seed makes for a more satisfying experience. Since my son is now home full time, I thought this would be a great opportunity to grow our garden plants from seed. From choosing the seeds, to planting them in pots, to watering. He's enjoyed watching our efforts magically grow. With tomatoes to strawberries, we're all set for our summer garden. Now it's just a matter of mother nature catching up! Social Distancing: WAAH Exhibition Title: Mother and Child Artist: Frances O’Flynn... Instagram: francesoflynn4 About Mother and Child: The Pandemic, and the measures necessary to keep it in check, has affected everyone. In Mother and Child I tried to convey the loneliness of those who are not like the happy, game-playing families portrayed on TV and in the media. These two are alone in their bubble - six feet away from everyone and scared and lonely. Bio: Frances O’Flynn is a Hamilton-based artist. She has a degree in Fine Art and History from University of Toronto and has taken many classes at Dundas Valley School of Art. Frances also is an art collector who, unfortunately, is running out of wall space. A member of the Women’s Art Association of Hamilton, Frances works primarily in collage and acrylics, and finds inspiration in Japanese prints, street art, and found objects. She has had two solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions. Her work is represented in private collections in Hamilton, Toronto, and France.
