To be eligible, a student must have been in the foster care system for at least one year as a child/youth and meet the admission criteria for their chosen program. Students straight from high school and mature students are eligible, appreciating that not everyone’s journey to university is a linear one. Additionally, students must be in or entering their first degree and not currently part of the NS Department of Community Services’ Educational Bursary Program for Children in Care.

Two things are absolute: the promise by the Minister didn’t manifest any changes in DFO’s approach to moderate livelihood and that consequently the patience of the Mi’kmaq has been understandably and undeniably tried beyond all limits.

‘As soon as that cop jumped out of the car, he said ‘I don’t want to hear it, you’re being arrested for shoplifting,' Melissa says. She also says she overheard the cops talking about arresting her for running while she was sitting in the car; she turned off the car for fear of the situation escalating further.’

‘The strategy is a national movement and call for champions who commit to making a difference through a public pledge. The pledge requires that they share their internal numbers on the percentage of women apprentices and journeypersons they employ in skilled trades work annually. Those who join the movement as champions by taking the #CHAMPIONS4CHANGE pledge are truly changemakers and leaders, Daviault said. They understand that numbers matter and aren’t afraid to be part of the discussion. We are beyond rhetoric as the number hasn’t increased in years. It’s time to be bold by holding industry accountable for the numbers.’ #womenintrades #Champion4Change #CountUsIn

From 2020 to 2030, the aim is to increase the proportion of women apprentices and journeypersons who work on-the-job. Change will occur incrementally with the overall goal of 15% per cent by 2030. Percentages represent the proportion of women who work on-the-job. Having a proportion ensures there is more than one woman working on a project. Are you a #Champion4Change?

The region of 2.4 million has banded together, barred outsiders, hewed tightly to health guidelines and has a Covid-19 death rate a 10th of the country’s. With almost no one noticing -- and that’s how they like it -- Atlantic Canada, an outpost of quiet obedience and aging rural stoicism, has become a pandemic Shangri-La.

It seems that the government recognizes that $21 per day for meals doesn’t cut it. Its own workers get a lot more. Provincial civil servants, including caseworkers and other Community Services staff can claim $43 per day for food, their collective agreement states. #nspoli

The Strategy includes the following goals: Increase the number of women apprentices, journeypersons and supervisors where they are underrepresented in proportion to the total number in a skilled trades workplace.
