Boulevard Lake, in Thunder Bay, is a popular place especially in summertime. This year, repairs to the dam, have required the man-made lake to be drained. It has been a long time since the water levels have been this low, and an interesting site has been uncovered. Listen below to Professor Scott Hamilton from Lakehead University talk about the mysterious stone circle. https://www.cbc.ca//15787130-getting-closer-look-mysteriou
Always have to be prepared working in the North. Hotter days means early start and early quit times so that the affects of the sun don’t harm the crew - lots of water to remain hydrated and sunscreen so no one ends up looking like a lobster - working along the water helps - the breeze can be cool and keep the bugs to a minimum
This week saw crews north of Dryden in some extreme temperatures so starting the day early helps, but when it gets too toasty its smart to call it quits - no job is so important to risk the health and safety of our crews. Even during this pandemic, practicing physical distancing and safety measures that help reduce risk to exposure is top priority - we all have to do our part and our COVID safety measures ensure both the safety of our crews and clients.
Archaeology takes us all around northern Ontario. Today’s adventure took us to the Beardmore area, and a stop to visit the Snowman, all decked out for summer. We were glad to have the company of FN community members from the area (following Covid protocols and social distancing). There is always a chance to find treasure whether natural or man made. A very old car, evidence of a busy beaver, big wolf tracks and 3 toonies (score!) were the highlights!
Welcome to Woodland Heritage Northwest - based in Thunder Bay, ON. This is our seventh field season and we are looking forward to it - lots of work planned around northwestern Ontario so stay tuned for updates!
