In the spring, we put forward a statement of solidarity with the BIPOC community with a promise that we will do more. The events that unfolded reminded us that change is not happening quickly enough and we need to actively dismantle colonialism and white supremacy. We promised to hold ourselves accountable and change racist practices that are embedded in our organization. Our commitment to change began two years ago when we held some roundtable sessions to learn from our com...munities as we built our strategic plan. At that time, the community rightly identified that while we had a few BIPOC members, we were a majority white staff and board. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion became one of the five main pillars of our strategic plan and accordingly, we have been working to make real change within our organization. We have outlined our commitment on our website at the link below. This commitment is a beginning and we will keep you informed as we continue to address inequities in our organization. We welcome your input and feedback to these commitments. To read the full plan, see: https://workmanarts.com/diversity-equity-inclusion-plan/ See more

Creative Coping Kits are a new initiative from Chill N Do Art to support the mental well being of Black and Indigenous single-parent families as a response to the needs of the community (and a reaction to COVID-19 quarantine). Each kit contains a Creative Coping Binder, art supplies, and crafting materials. As of September 1, 2020, enough funds have been raised to produce 100 kits. They are now reaching out to the community for volunteers, art material donations and submissio...ns for the Creative Coping Binder., which will feature activities aimed at nurturing positivity and wellness, such as colouring pages for both parents and children, writing prompts, and guided activities for families to do together. To get involved or for more information, follow Chill N Do Art here on Facebook or @chillndoart on Instagram, or contact [email protected] to submit to the Creative Coping Binder.
