Livingston Hub Sales & Information Centre After completion of the Livingston Kiosk and LIV Letter Monuments, we once again partnered with Brookfield Residential Calgary to create a unique sales experience for their HUB Sales Centre. The purpose of this project was to educate new home buyers on the benefits of the community, and also see if the Livingston way of life was suitable for them.... It was important to capture the playful elements of the Livingston brand, along with a strong focus on accessibility and family living. By mixing simple graphics with more refined elements, we were able to convey accessibility for younger buyers, while also reflecting a high level of quality and finish. The Hub project was a great experience for everyone involved, and led to yet another partnership between Westwind and Brookfield to develop their showhome sales center across the street! Calgary Co-op wanted to add a bit of pop to their walls, so we created these custom illuminated image panels to brighten them up! These panels have lights embedded inside the frames, showcasing the Hi-res images printed on the front. UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY - HISTORY WALL Having been founded over 40 years ago, the University of Calgary - Faculty of Law, was looking to speak to their history and values in a creative way. We had done work with the Faculty in the past and were excited for the opportunity to update this space with a modern design that would work well with the rest of the interior. There were a few things that were important for us to take into consideration. We wanted a design that spoke to the... history of the Faculty, that was complete with historical photos, quotes, and timelines layered throughout a structured format. To do this we concentrated on strong shapes in combination with different materials, including, dimensional lettering, wood paneling, and a black/grey/white/red colour palette that represented the University of Calgarys brand and worked with the rest of the fixtures in the interior. The result was a cohesive design that accomplished our objectives of creating an eye catching history wall layered with content that would look good and last for many years. Client: Brookfield Residential Date: 2017 Location: Calgary, Alberta In 2017 we partnered with Brookfield, to create an art installation within their new Livingston community. Together we created a monument symbolizing their community values.... The idea was inspired by the Love Lock Bridge in Paris, but with a focus on people living together within this growing community. To emphasize this we took the the first 3 letters of Livingston, L-I-V, and created a structure that was over 10 tall and 20 wide. Like the Love Lock Bridge, locks are given out and locked to the letters. As time passes and more people join the community the installation will grow, adding variety and colour to the steel letters. The locks vary in size, shape and origin, some are new, some old, some with inspirational messages, and everything in between; a perfect metaphor for a new group of people establishing roots in one of Calgary's newest communities. We loved the idea of building this monument but also had to make it durable so it could handle the load of thousands of future locks. This was especially important since the letters are hollow with grated front and back surfaces, leaving little space for structure. The letters were formed with stainless steel and a hidden structural frame that was anchored to a concrete base to handle windloads. In the end, it is a privilege to work with Brookfield to develop a unique monument that brings people and community together. #design #community #art

In 2018 we were approached by the Town of Okotoks to add more information about climate change into their Environmental Education Centre. Our main Focus was to represent how climate has changed over time. We started this out by creating a climate timeline which spans the education centre from the vestibule wall to the classroom on the other side of the centre. This all started on the vestibule wall, we used illustrations to demonstrated the passing of time, with melting glaci...ers, animals and humans emerging. We also added a Life on Earth Clock to show the small time in which humans have inhabited the earth, and a combination of dimensional panels and floor decals to show the milestones relating to climate. The Education Centres building was inspired by Okotokss Big Rock, a glacier found just outside of the city with lots of historical significance. We wanted to give a glimpse into this history, combining the Big Rock with an illustration of the building, and showing the link between the two. The final section wraps up the timeline with a few more important dates, and a look to the future depending on the steps taken to mitigate climate change, plus a cool flip up interactive panel. Working with the Town of Okotoks is always fun, we get to try and find new ways to illustrate complex subjects in easy to understand segments. This project expanded from an initial plan of redoing a bench panel and a few floor decals to designing 4 walls, 10 floor decals, dimensional pieces and more, in the end we couldnt be happier with the result!

Client: Brookfield Residential Date: 2019 Location: Calgary, Alberta In 2019 Brookfield Residential engaged us to help them develop the presentation space in their new Livingston showhome. The directive for us was to create 2 feature walls based off of designs from their previous showhome and HUB trailer (which we had designed in 2017).... Execution for this type of project can be challenging, we worked alongside Brookfield's marketing team to ensure the look-and-feel of the space matched their vision. We had to understand the flow of information and what could fit in the space, as well as, make sure the brand stayed consistent from their community trailer (The HUB) to their other showhomes. To do this we incorporated different ways of layering the information visually and physically. We did so by utliizing the unique 'shard' shapes in the community logo and branding and contrasting it against the horizontal shiplap wall, which was done in the original show home. Along with the shards we intergrated the brand colours, dimensional lettering and a touch of reflective gold vinyl to maintain visual consistency from the other show homes, and giving the space a more sophisticated and contemporary look. There were a lot of pieces to coordinate, fortunately we have a team of designers and fabricators that could meet with the client, assess their needs to create a design that represents their vision, then fabricate and install it all under one roof. In the end, we are very pleased with the result of this project and the fact that we can continue working with the good people of Brookfield.
