Grooming Update - January 10, 2021: We were out to see what we could do on the trails leading out of Etherington parking lot with our snowmobile and drag groomer - as there is not enough snow to operate our large groomer currently - and the situation is grim. Bottom line - there is no way we can groom properly for two reasons: our large grooming machine has deep steel grouser bars not made to work on very skinny to ground exposed snow - hard packed, and we do not own the pr...oper drag type to groom out whoop tee doos with it. We possess a groomer to work in deep/deeper snow and currently a drag to work on high mountain trails, not beaten down and whooped out trails from parking lots. If more people would financially support what the club is trying to do on the trails - and Mother Nature would bring us more snow like last year- we would be able to do more. Also, with the province experiencing a low snow year and a lot of the province finding out and coming out to Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails, this year so far has seen an explosion of activity at Cataract we have not seen before. We are limited by our equipment type and Mother Nature currently. We remain vigilant in our efforts, moving forward trying to make the snowmobiling experience at Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trail a good day out for everyone. See more
Just west of Calgary, Powderface Trail, a good report
Thank you for your nice words!
Goes for our Alberta Clubs too.
It's with sadness that we mourn the loss of Sgt. Andrew Harnett with the rest of the Calgary region. Not only did we lose a member of our police force, we lost a member of our powersports community. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time. https://youtu.be/zJjegQD9MKc
Great to see the families out!
VP Randall showing his group the map of cataract creek. Always a great way to educate! @tdub_777 @cycleworkscalgary @bowridgesports @basecampmotorsport @ralphs_motorsports @proammotorsports @mountaintoyspolaris @altasnowmobile #joinaclub #supportlocalclubs #altasnowmobile #snowmobilelife
Update on Cataract/Etherington Snowmobiling areas. The recent snowfall was very significant just before the holiday. I have been told that the graders first attempt to clear the lots was hampered by trucks already parked restricting access. Efforts will continue to finish the job but with the holiday and significant wind causing drifting to high priority locations, a return time may be delayed. If your pulling a larger trailer your access will be very limited until we have a confirmation of a lot clearing. Etherington sounds like its a back out situation at present. We will post an update as soon as we can. Thanks, Darren Whitney CSC President 20/21
Currently the snowmobile trails are closed at Cataract Creek/Etherington, as by regulation they do not open until Dec. 1. This is because hunting season is open and ongoing, until Nov. 30, on the Ministry of Parks and Environment - Public Lands Division’s Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle P.L.U.Z., where the snowmobile trails are located. Club volunteers have not started packing snow yet with the groomer, as quite frankly there is not enough there to get our groomer to and down th...e trail from the maintenance yard without damaging its’ tracks. This past week there was a report from a club volunteer of the staging area’s two parking lots of only 3-4 inches of snow. We are eager for the next big snowfall so we may go and pack in the base for the season. Sincerely, Scott Kjarsgaard Trails Director 2020-21 Calgary Snowmobile Club
The snow has arrived at Cataract!
This ol’ girl is getting a final check over before hitting the trails! We will start grooming after Christmas! #letthegroomingbegin #crowsnestpass #sledalberta #explorethepass
A good article to go along with our club's anticipated increase in trail usage to the trails we groom at Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails, in Kananaskis Country, west and southwest of Longview, AB. If you would like more club information please see - http://www.calgarysnowmobileclub.net/
So this just arrived today. Great way to identify as a member/supporter of the club. Thanks Randall and Rachelle Callan for taking on this project. Stay tuned as general sales for the plates should commence shortly.
Coming soon, new Club swag winter jacket. Will have a small club logo on front top left side, and a much larger one on the back!
CrowSnow Riders have organized this event with Avalanche Canada. Are you ready for the season?
