Hunt To Harvest

For those of you who decided to stay in where it was warm this morning, you where probably wise but for the rest of us crazy people the hunt was on

I get asked all the time for tips and tricks on coyote hunting and I can’t possibly answer all the messages I receive. Maybe this will help. I wrote this article for Ontario Out of Door a couple years ago. Hope it helps.

To windy to hunt this morning so I decided to catch up on pelt processing. 5 drying nicely with a couple more skins to clean up. The fur prices look poor at best but I still send all the good one to auction

Tag teaming with Eugene. Two more last light heavy coated males to add to the list.

I’m often ask how I’m able to call so many big old male coyotes into shooting range and besides my @icotec Outlaw I have an assistant. Combining old Eugene here with the Outlaw I’ve had many successful hunts. As with any other type of hunt strategy is key. I like to use Eugene in farms where coyotes can be tough to call and I only use him at first or last light. Coyote hunting can be frustrating at best and although decoying isn’t the magic answer it certainly helps

With limited time to hunt this morning I didn’t waste any time getting into one of my properties for a first light call. As usual the @icotec Outlaw did the job and I came alway with this heavy coated prime female.

Our boy is back. One of Kawartha Lakes finest After not seeing him since early November I figured he had fallen victim to another hunters bullet or arrow. But now we know where he lives. My son and I are now planning to carefully reposition a couple stands to do some party hunting. He moves a lot at night however he’s feeding again so just maybe we will still get a chance. If not we’ll be chasing him again next year.

I love the Rut. Field hunting with a bow can be challenging at best when your trying to get a buck into range to get a shot. My morning hunt was Text Book when I set my @icotec Outlaw 100 yards up wind from my tree stand and after an hour of strategy calling using the doe bleat I got the attention of this 12 point beauty. He slowly worked his way across the field coming in behind the caller but placing him at an easy 30 yard shot. The @crimsontalonbroadheads G2 did a great job.

Finally got a chance to boil the skull from my 2019 buck. Being one of the biggest bucks I’ve harvested in the past 15 year I figure a European mount would create a lasting memory of one of the hardest hunts I’ve every done.
