Finishing touches this weekend. Getting ready to open our doors again for the first time since March 16th. August 10th will be our soft opening, allowing 4 people at a time to enter the store and shop with our help. We want to salute these two lovely ladies, Barb (L) and Suzanne (R) our picture framers for more than a decade. Picture Framing is one aspect of our business that has not survived the pandemic and it is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of our Framing department. Suzanne and Barb helped thousands of customers realize their vision to enhance and preserve their artwork and artifacts. They will be missed by customers and coworkers alike. Thank you . So good to have a couple hours in the studio today! Feels as though it has been months, probably only one month? Here I am working on a small drypoint on copper plate that I had almost forgotten about. I really enjoy the process of drawing directly into copper (or plexiglass) with a sharp drawing tool. At Wyndham Art, we carry plexiglass sheets, PET, Carbonnel etching inks, Charbonnel aquawash inks, Gamblin inks, lots of European print papers, lots of washi, etching and drypoint tools. We lost another friend the other day. We will miss Brians kindness and positive attitude. This short tribute is by one of our GSA instructors. - We are so deeply saddened that our dear friend Brian Fayle passed away yesterday. Brian was a talented artist and for many years, a student at the Guelph School of Art. During those years, he was an important part of many of my classes, offering his own accumulated knowledge and sharing his work and experiences with new students. He... added so much to the classes, especially to Open Studio where he contributed not only his knowledge, but also his good humour, generosity and tenderness. A few years ago, we celebrated his birthday with students supplying several wonderful baked goods, cake, and singing a boisterous happy birthday. He was always keen to challenge himself and explore new ideas, and I will miss his unique way of problem solving and finding solutions. With great sadness we recently found out that one of our longtime customers, Grant W. Love has passed away. Grant made an impression, and those who knew him will remember him as a quirky and singular individual with an encyclopedic memory and fascination for facts and details about everything that interested him. He was a regular in the store and we could always count on him to have a thoroughly researched and exhaustively annotated shopping list. He shared his process with... us, and he derived great satisfaction from making his charming paintings of classic Ontario scenes and architecture. He was known and loved by all the staff, and he made a point of knowing them too. Grant was a story teller and an avid follower of current affairs. He wasnt afraid to share his opinions and had a sly and sometimes dark wit. He was a lifelong student, his passions including trains (the Guelph Junction Railway in particular), photography, music, and later in life, painting. Grant lived alone most of his life but found companionship with his beloved dogs and the many people in town whose lives he touched. He went to high school at G.C.V.I., worked at the old W.C. Woods company in the drafting department and later in the Parking department at the City of Guelph. We will miss Grant, and we will cherish the self-portrait photo he gave us years ago, showing him at his art desk. RIP Grant. #downtownguelph #localheroes #manabouttown See more

We have been making masks because we are in a pandemic and they help to stop some, if not most of the virus from reaching our mouth or nose. They are super easy to make and some of you have time for this. You can make them out of a pillow case and you can sew them by hand. If you wear one, continue not touching your face and keep washing your hands. Making masks means we can help people whose work has them around lots of people. Many people with the virus are asymptomatic. Le...ts not forget that our number one concern in a time like this is to keep our health care workers and care givers safe. So dont be an asshole and hoard medical grade PPE! Donate those to our EMS people ASAP. Here is a description of the photos. 1. Making a pattern on trace paper or anything paper. Use template on our fb page. Make them a bit longer and bigger in general. 2.cut 2 of the liner piece and 2 of the outside.3. Stitch the long curve of both pairs, right sides together 4. Fold ends in twice, iron and stitch hems 5.pin right sides together of both pieces and stitch bottom flat side together. On the top, stitch from liner hem in towards nose bridge 1 inch on both sides 6. Turn mask inside out. Here I like to top stitch across the bottom and then across the top but this is not necessary 7. Fold top flap over to inside and stitch down with a top stitch, leaving an open channel for your twist tie or pipe cleaner for nose bridge 9. Cut some t-shirt ropes. I just cut across an old t-shirt and opened that loop to make one long string. Put knots on the ends 10. Fold ends over your rope and sew in place with back stitching- dont sew into your rope!! Do both sides so that a loop can be placed behind your head, go through the sides and then tie behind your neck. You can insert a piece of vent filter if you left the sides open. These can and should be washed in hot soapy water after you wear them out. The more you make the better you get.
