Yoga Staff Spotlight! I love how there is no end or perfect pose in yoga, there is constant room for discovery and improvement. A student who can headstand has just as much to learn as the student who can’t touch their toes... If your looking to gain flexibility, strength, improve your fitness, overall health mentally and physically - yoga compliments and fits into any lifestyle. I love being a yoga student, and have the opportunity to teach and share with others. I hope to see you join me in the studio! -Emily

January Staff Member of the Month We are happy to announce that our Staff Member of the Month for January 2021 is Rosie Taylor! Rosie has been with RC since 2003, and quickly became a club favourite while teaching spin and HIIT classes. Rosie has an incredibly busy schedule as a nursing professor at Aurora Collage but always takes time to assist our members and ensure that they are getting the most out of their workouts. From always being the first to pick up a class that needs to be subbed to stopping her own workout to help someone struggling with a movement, Rosie is someone members and staff seek for genuine support. YKRC is undeniably proud to call Rosie a staff member, and we look forward to the expertise she will continue to bring to the club into the future. #rcstaffmembers #staffmemberofthemonth #rcinstructors

As many of our members know that with the New Year our classes have been fuller than ever, and with full classes come waitlists. Luckily at RC a spot on the waitlist often always means you’ll have a spot in the class. So, for our members that find themselves on the waitlist please see the below information about changes to the waitlist process. 1. When a member receives a notification that they have been moved from the waitlist into the class list they will get either an ema...il or a text message asking them to reply Y to confirm or N to cancel. It is extremely important that if you are unable to make it to the class you reply N to the notification as MINDBODY will hold your spot until it gets notification you are not coming. 2. If you opt in to a waitlist please note that YKRC puts the responsibility on our members to check the waitlist in an appropriate time before the class to see if they have been moved into the class list. If a member does not check the waitlist, and has been moved into the class list but does not show up for class it will be counted as a No Show. We appreciate that our members continue to keep our classes full, and we hope to continue being able to accommodate as many people as possible in our classes!

Here are your RC Fitness Challenge Winners! Well folks, the challenge is complete! It was wonderful to hear people talking about the challenge, encouraging each other, and making small changes like leaving the car at home or walking a bit more. Someone even said they decided to take over shovelling their driveway to get points! That is what this challenge was about, to make us all more aware of what we do on a daily basis, and maybe adding extra activities or making small ch...anges to what we do. Not to mention a challenge is always fun when you are doing it with a team, motivating each other and cheering people on. Congratulations to everyone who participated. Team captains for the top 8 finishers will be contacted today to choose an instructor for a private class (to be delivered over the Christmas holiday). Thank you to the instructors who volunteered to teach a class - Nikki Johansen, Arielle Daniel, Ken Eng, Catherine Ardiles, Grace Chambers, Skylar Urschel, Cheryl Houwling, and Natasha Ramm. Top 3 Individual prizes include a private stretch therapy class from Ken Eng, and a personal training session with Inemesit Graham - Catherine will contact you directly about prizes. We’d like to give special shout outs to two individuals that made this challenge well worth it. These two people committed a great number of hours of their lives over the last 3 weeks to this challenge, their time here encouraged not only their teammates to work harder, but everyone else around them. First we would like to announce Tamara Jovic as the winner of the Most Enthusiastic award. Tamara is a shinning light when she is in the club, you will often see her in class with her friends, or down in the weight room. Not only did Tamara spend a countless amount of time here at the club during the fitness challenge she also introduced many new, and existing members to the things RC has to offer including classes, and the weight room. Thank you for being such a great team player Tamara, we are so happy to have had you be part of this challenge. Next, we’d like to announce Ken Eng as the winner of the Most Dedicated award. Ken truly dedicated himself to this challenge racking up a total of 1282 points for his team. Ken is known for his ability to challenge himself, having completed a number of ultramarathons, and endurance events he made it well known to those around them that without the ability to travel this year he would be making the RC Fitness Challenge his personal challenge for the year. RC is so thankful to have Ken continue to be a presence in our fitness challenges, as he always brings a friendly sense of competition that everyone loves. Congratulations Ken! Happy Holidays! #programsattherc #rcfitnesschallenge #happyholidays

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS from Kelli McKim-Barter, General Manager/Owner To say that this has been a challenging year is an understatement. It has been a tumultuous, stressful, worrisome time for all of us. However, we have pulled through and can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I cannot thank my management team and staff enough for their unconditional support, hard work, patience and understanding. I would have been lost without them and they are the embodiment of T...eam. I won’t lie in that it has been one of the scariest times of my professional life. I have put everything (blood, sweat, tears and financial resources!) into the Club and the thought of losing it was unbearable. However, with the help of government assistance, grants, creative thinking and staff sacrifices, we made it work. I want to ensure our members, that despite the rumors floating around Yellowknife, my Club is NOT for sale and we are very much open for business and thriving. Given that we are in the midst of a pandemic, we have never been busier, even with the reduced capacity restrictions placed on us by the CPHO. The support of you, our valued members, has enabled us to continue to offer top notch programming and classes. I am also pleased to say that I will be back on the schedule in January, teaching two Barre classes per week! So, as this year draws to an end, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous, healthy 2021. Thank you for standing by us. You have no idea how much it means!

We know you’ve missed Ladies Who Lift! Check out what the amazing Caroline Hogan-Newberry has to say about this programs New Year comeback! New Year. New Goals. REBOOT! YKRC is proud to announce Malini Sengupta as our December 2020 Member of the Month. Malini has been a member at the club since October of 2019, and since then has been a constant presence in classes and on the squash courts. Moving from big city British Columbia to Yellowknife, Malini expected small town amenities and was pleasantly surprised to find a place that met every need, and more. Previous fitness ventures had Malini spending hours commuting just to get to one ...gym with classes, and then another with personal trainers, and then another with free weights and weight rooms. Coming to Yellowknife meant that she was able to have everything she needed from a fitness facility in one place, and she attributes that to her increased love of health and fitness. Malini started her RC journey with weekly classes and then ventured on to the squash courts and then into the weight rooms with her PT Devin. She continues to bring positive energy whenever she enters the building, which everyone from peers to strangers alike can feel. Malini easily represents the idea that at the RC everyday we’re working to make our best better. Congratulations Malini! See more
