Introducing the 2020 YMCA Northumberland Adult Peace Medal Recipient - Ross Quigley Described as a volunteer extraordinaire and a humble ambassador of our community and known for his knowledge of and commitment to our local area, Ross Quigley exemplifies the qualities of a peacemaker. Ross demonstrates a deep commitment to making our community a better place to live and to improving the lives of others. Through empathy, involvement, a willingness to roll up his sleeves a...nd contribute and a strong sense of compassion and care, Ross inspires others to get involved and do what they can to improve both local and global communities. The list of Ross’s accomplishments and volunteer roles is long and varied, as is the list of groups and individuals he has helped. He recently lent his skill and experience to Northumberland Hospice Care as a Building Committee member during the design and construction of Ed’s house, founded the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame, served as a United Way Campaign Chair and DBIA president, coordinated the Day of Caring project for the past 23 years, and still finds time to sit on numerous committees and boards. His love of sports that started as a talented athlete on numerous local teams has led to various roles as a volunteer coach, a campaign member, and an accomplished local sports historian. Ross was a committed Rotarian for 22 years, serving a term as President and a member of the Parks and Recreation Board. Ross is known for his kind and gentle soul and appreciated by his peers and colleagues for his ability to make things happen. When approached by his long-time friend Ernie Outwin, who had created a much-loved Christmas panorama display, Ross took it upon himself to ensure the display had a home each Christmas season, so that even after Ernie passed away, our community could enjoy what he had created. Ross is selfless with his time, enthusiasm, and drive, and generous with his kindness, expertise, and fellowship. He works tirelessly to do good in our communities, never seeking fanfare or recognition. It is our honor to recognize Ross Quigley as the 2020 YMCA Adult Peace Medal recipient. See more

A message from Rod Simpson, Turkey Trot Race Director: With 12 days until Thanksgiving, register today for the 2020 Turkey Trot! Normally, we at the Turkey Trot are busy getting the course prepared for the hundreds of participants that would be strutting their stuff(ing) at the Turkey Trot.... This year we can't meet in-person, but we can still have you and your family continue the tradition of supporting the YMCA while being active. This year the Turkey Trot may be virtual, but the prizes are real. By making a donation and getting out and walking/running your own personal Turkey Trot, you get a chance to win one of our many wonderful prizes from such great sponsors as New Balance. Plus, this year we had Crock-A-Doodle donate Doodle Dollars to give-away. How amazing is that! Also, the Golden Drumstick Trophy is up for grabs for that person or group showing the most turkey pride. Remember, Don't Be Chicken ... Be A Turkey! https://raceroster.com//northumberland-virtual-turkey-trot

YMCA Northumberland, together with YMCA associations across Canada, urges our community to celebrate the local people who work to make a difference in the lives of others, and who demonstrate how any one of us can make a meaningful contribution to peace, a better community, and a better world.YMCA Northumberland has awarded medals to adults and youth (individuals and groups) for their efforts to change our community and our world through selfless action. We call on our community to nominate individuals or groups who commit themselves to improve the lives of others. Without any special means or resources, these individuals create positive social change because they know in their hearts it is the right thing to do. Nomination deadline is Friday, October 30th, at 5 p.m.

We currently have openings in Before & After School and full day Toddler and Preschool Programs at multiple locations. Choosing a child care provider is a big decision. As Canada’s largest child care provider, we always hear from parents that they want somewhere their child will be safe and well-cared for, where they’ll have fun and learn new things, and most importantly, somewhere they’ll look forward to going to every day. In other words, a home away from home. And that’s ...what you’ll find at the YMCA. Through our programs, we are nurturing the development of all children to give them the best start possible. You’ll have peace of mind knowing that your child is not only having fun and making new friends, but they’re also developing the skills needed to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Discover why YMCA Child Care is much more than you’d expect from a child care centrewe’re the place where children learn, grow and thrive. For information, contact [email protected] Please contact

"As we turn our focus to reactivation of programs and services, we know that things will look different, and the road ahead will be a challenging one, but we are also confident that the YMCA’s role in our communities will continue to grow and change. The commitment of our staff, volunteers, donors, partners, members, and participants to building strong, safe and inclusive communities where everybody can belong and thrive makes our work possible. We look forward to opening our... doors, and with a century and a half long tradition of building strong communities, we know that YMCA Northumberland will be HERE FOR GOOD." YMCA Playing to Learn Developed in 2001 by a team of child care experts, our YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum prepares children ages 0-6 for school and life-long achievement by nurturing their curiosity and development in the most natural way possiblethrough play! An integral part of all licensed YMCA early learning child care across Canada since 2007, YMCA Playing to Learn aligns with all provincial early learning frameworks adopted to date and is based on research and evidence that shows play is the most effective way that children learn and gain new skills.
