Thank you Sudbury! 5 Last night, on the first night our warming centre was operational, we serviced 24 people over the course of the night, and provided then with a safe and comfortable space to get out of the cold, a warm shower, snacks, coffee, water, clothes, outerwear, touques, gloves, socks, etc. We are so proud to be doing what we can to make an impact of the lives of fellow Sudburians!

In 2018, Soren won the YMCA Peace Medal for the youth category. At 10 years old, Soren started giving back by volunteering at a YMCA Judo program for 5 years. As the years went on, Soren got elected to student council, fixed cars for the annual Soap Box Derby, built potato cannons for a fundraiser, helped with Amazing Race Sudbury and helped teach young children how to ride bicycles through iCan Bike. Barbara Roy was one our YMCA Peace Medal recipients last year for her relentless persistence to go above and beyond to assist Syrian refugees. Barbara would help them move to Canada, settle and integrate into our Sudbury community. She continues to support them on their journey to citizenship and supports them like they are her own family with things like homework, taking them to interviews and doctors’ appointments. We are so excited to launch the Digital Inclusions, Seniors Connections and Opportunities Hub (DISCO) in partnership with Canadore College, The Village! The DISCO Hub focuses on: teaching how to use technology safely through free educational workshops providing a way to connect seniors with their families by lending devices to use for free... getting active with a short workout session DISCO begins Wednesday, November 4th at the Sudbury YMCA, and Friday November 6th at the Valley East Public Library.
