Your Health Collective remains open to serve Ajax and surrounding areas, as Durham Region moves into the Red Zone. Our clinic continues to have enhanced sanitation processes: rooms are cleaned between every patient visit, all high touch surfaces are cleaned frequently, we ask patients not to use the washroom facilities if possible but if used they are cleaned immediately. Did you know there is a biochemical and physiological reason behind our cravings during stressful times?! When we are stressed, physically, mentally, or emotionally our bodies produce higher amounts of the stress hormone, cortisol. When cortisol levels are high and we eat sugar or other simple carbohydrate foods, it causes our insulin to spike. (Insulin is produced in the pancreas in response to sugar). High insulin levels cause blood sugars to plummet, leading to a further ...increase in the secretion of our stress hormone, cortisol, and increased hunger, especially for sweets and carbs.
