Close to $3000 worth of socks were purchased through donations to YSB through the Socks for the Homeless campaign this Holiday Season! Special thanks to David and Marion Rattray for leading the campaign and making this happen again this year, and in a slightly different way! Also special appreciation to Debbie and Trevor who assisted not only with the campaign but also deliveries. Thank you also to John McRae Secondary School and Kanata Academy who did fundraisers in support of this campaign! And, a shout out to Giant Tiger where the bulk sock purchases were made in support of YSB and other local shelters.

The pandemic is affecting every aspect of our lives including our mental health and has even further highlighted the challenges and inequities faced by those who experience racial injustice. This is why Bell Let's Talk invite you to join their free webinar, on mental health in diverse communities on January 22 from noon to 1 p.m. ET. They've gathered community leaders, people with lived experience, and some of the best experts in the field of mental health specializing in ethnocultural communities to have a conversation about the current state of mental health in the Black, Indigenous, and People of colour populations. #BellLetsTalk Find more information and register here: https://queensu.ca//bell-lets-talk-mental-health-in-divers
Thank you to Dave Kalil for Saturday's concert: you and your audience raised $800!! We will continue to work to make sure that every young person in Ottawa is warm, fed, and safely housed - thank you, Dave!
This morning was the annual Christmas Cheer Foundation event, a breakfast that raises funds in support of 21 charities to ensure meals and food hampers are available to those in need this holiday season, including youth in YSB’s programs. Though the event looked different this year because of the pandemic, Christmas Cheer still delivered a special event full of music, celebration andyou guessed itcheer! We’re grateful to be a recipient of this special event!
Ottawa's own Dave Kalil is having a fun, live musical show tonight at 7:30pm! Dave is kindly promoting the amazing work that we do at YSB by accepting donations tonight as well! Dave is a talented musician with a big heart -- we're grateful for all of his support of at-risk youth in our community. Let's show him some love: join Dave tonight at 7:30pm on his page, follow him, and share this message!
We’re thrilled to highlight another one of our top fundraising teams from #StayUpOttawa: the Bank of Canada All-Nighters. This team raised more than $7000 for solutions to youth homelessness in Ottawa. Can we get a round of applause for these folks!? Thank You!
Big thank you to Stomping Ground for choosing to support YSB and at-risk youth in our community through Give Back Friday (instead of Black Friday!) last week. THIS is what community looks like.
From Spectrum Youth Group: Nov 20th is Trans Day of Remembrance, We created this post in hopes of offering support to the trans community, Although we cannot be here in person, we are with you in spirit and solidarity....
More than 260 participants have joined Stay Up Ottawa and will stay up with YSB this Friday night from their respective locations across the city. Why? Because stories like this are made possible through their support. Ciizzy's Story:... From the ages of 12 to 15, my home was a challenging place to be. My parents didn’t treat me like I was a person. They often said things like You’re not part of this family. But I still tried to be a good sister and daughter. One day my mom kicked me out. She told me she was going upstairs and by the time she came back down, I should be gone. I ended up going to a friend’s house, even though I knew it wasn’t a good situation. I was only 16 and had nowhere to go. I left with 2 bags of clothes and no money. I called my teacher. That same day, she brought me to YSB’s Young Women’s Shelter. Now, as a YSB Peer Supporter, I help other youth who are struggling. YSB shelter staff not only made me realize my potential in this world, they helped me discover my true self and worth. Right now, there are young people organizing to ensure that youth don’t have to spend this winter on the street. They’re going to participate in YSB’s Stay Up Ottawa, a virtual event on November 27 in the name of ending youth homelessness in Ottawa. You can help them, and homeless youth, this Halloween. Donate the equivalent you would’ve spent on purchasing Halloween candy to one of the youth teams who are fundraising. ... It’s $20 that will make more of a difference than candy ever could. A big thanks to Homestead for continuing to partner with YSB and taking action to ensure that youth in our community don't have to experience homelessness. Solutions exist with YSB, thank you Homestead for supporting them. #stayupottawa
Donating can be win-win-win! Buying gently used items on Give Shop's new marketplace means great stuff for you, cash donations for the Youth Services Bureau, and less in our landfills. Support second-hand giving here: https://bit.ly/2HvCACv ... #investinthefuture #secondhandlove
We may not have as many trick-or-treaters at our doors this Halloween, but we can still make this month special and bright for young people. There are youth in Ottawa who are collectively fundraising to help homeless youth get off the streets for good. They’ve created teams as part of YSB’s Stay Up Ottawa event and will be staying up on November 27. Here’s how you can help: Donate the $20 you may have otherwise spent on purchasing Halloween candy to one of these amazing yout...h teams. You’ll help homeless youth leave the streets of Ottawa AND encourage high school students to help their peers in Ottawa’s largest youth for youth event this November. Donate to one of the following teams now: Glebe Cohort A https://ysbfoundation.akaraisin.com//99d78370416b4025badd7 Glebe Cohort B https://ysbfoundation.akaraisin.com//eccd21541f884cda830e1 John McCrae Secondary School https://ysbfoundation.akaraisin.com//3a2908723aa046c499da4 Holy Trinity Tornados https://ysbfoundation.akaraisin.com//9271775579da469abf254 Night Owls (Colonel By HS) https://ysbfoundation.akaraisin.com//9271775579da469abf254 Nepean HS https://ysbfoundation.akaraisin.com//b5af30a2e8704d7fa3d56
