We want to thank David Aplin Group for their generosity. When asked what inspired their donation, they replied, "we recognize that it’s been a tough year for many people in Saskatchewan, and the Food Bank delivers an essential service that supports the local community and is in alignment with our Core Purpose of Positively Impacting Peoples’ Lives." We are so grateful for this lovely donation, especially during these uncertain times, when folks are forced to turn to food banks for support.

Today is Natasha’s one year Anniversary! As Urban Agriculture Program Manager, Natasha oversees the visioning, grant writing, and management of the Garden Patch. You are most likely to find her at the Patch busy turning compost, organizing workshops, teaching Gardening 101 participants, mentoring staff, and tackling the next mulching project. That is because Natasha leads by example. If there is a hard task to do, you can bet she will be in there doing it with you. She will a...lso be laughing, no matter how hard the work is. Natasha has made the complex logistical processes involved in running the day-to-day operations of an acre and a half urban farm during a pandemic seem easy. That’s talent! She brings her passion and experience to the Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Her meticulous attention to detail has helped our gardening teams stay safe during the pandemic. It is undeniable that Natasha is an excellent gardener, but that is far from her only skill. She is also a passionate advocate for a more just and sustainable world. She values learning and education and her volunteer work as the co-chair of Saskatoon Pride, and as a Compost Coach, is the perfect embodiment of her wide-ranging interests and skills. She also cares deeply about our community, our food system, and our work. Happy one year anniversary!

Jody Nolin has been a part of the Creating Opportunities team as the Literacy Instructor for only one year, but it feels like much longer not only because of her strong work ethic, quick sense of humour and contagious passion for learning but because of the way she enthusiastically jumped in with both feet to lead the Literacy Program right from the start. The way that Jody embraced the role of Literacy Instructor was impressive and inspirational she has changed lives wit...h her compassion, understanding, honesty, and encouragement. Our Literacy Students truly wanted to learn from her and willingly embraced the opportunities she offered them. Her calm and easy-going nature helped more than a few people overcome their fears about the learning environment, and we have been incredibly lucky to have her on our team. Having her as a co-worker has been fun, easy, authentic, and an absolute pleasure! As Jody moves on to a new role with SIIT, as the Program Coordinator of Adult Basic Education, we want to thank her for setting the bar high for us for the students and the SFBLC. Jody has revived the Literacy Program in all the ways that we hoped she would and we will always be incredibly honoured and grateful for the time she gave to us! While we are sad to be losing her, we are also so proud and excited for her as she continues to lean into her newfound passion for Adult Learning. Thank you Jody, we will all miss you very much!

We want to recognize Brendan, our Assistant Warehouse Manager on his fifth anniversary at the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre. Garnet, our Warehouse Manager writes, "What can we say about Brendan!? This man is a hardcore Leafs fan. He takes a lot of ribbing and enjoys doling it right back out. It is truly a pleasure working with Brendan. He is willing to lend a hand and is flexible in day to day work needs. He maintains a high level of professionalism while sharing his... warm, friendly charm as he leads the orientation and training for volunteers and Creating Opportunities Participants at the warehouse. Not only does he execute his duties with excellence, but he also keeps us all safe with his involvement in our OH&S committee. Lastly, I want to say that Brendan is just crushing it! Super proud of this dude!" Brendan! All of us at the SFBLC are proud to have you on the team, and we look forward to sharing many more years of meaningful work with you.

Adrian joined the @yxefoodbank four years ago, and it is safe to say the Food Bank hasnt been the same since! Adrian brings incredible energy, optimism, and drive to all of his endeavours. When he joined the organization as Urban Agriculture Program Manager in Sept 2016, he jumped right into harvest at the Garden Patch and hasnt stopped planning, networking, planting, coordinating, learning, growing, or sharing his skills and passion for urban agriculture since. Adrian thro...ws 110% of himself into everything he does, whether thats growing the Garden Patch, building the seasonal team and expanding the partner and donor network, or collaborating with his colleagues around a variety of committees, for example, health and safety, and Truth & Reconciliation. On a lighter side, Adrian is quick with a pun, loves a good laugh, and has lent his time to our Social Committee planning fun events and theme days for the staff team, not to mention pulling together an incredible Halloween costume every year. Adrian is a recent graduate of both the Leadership Saskatoon Program (2019) and the national TD Friends of the Environment Foundation Leadership Program. With this enthusiasm for learning and leading, Adrian now heads Urban Agriculture and Nutrition Programming as the Food Security Senior Manager, a role that combines Adrians penchant for food security, food systems, and social change to help set the strategic direction of our organizations work. He is truly a delight to work with due to his energy, enthusiasm, quickness to lend a hand, ability to ask the tough questions, and keenness to find solutions, as well as strongly held values around team and collaboration. While he originally hails from Winnipeg, we are pleased he made the move with his wife here to the City of Bridges, working tirelessly to build a greener, healthier Saskatoon. Congratulations on four strong years with the SFBLC, Adrian!

Candace has been with the SFBLC for two years. In that time, she has worked as a Client Services Representative in our emergency food basket program, and as a Customer Service Representative in our Clothing Depot. Candace stepped into her new role as Office Administrator in May. Since that time, she has jumped in with both feet, and taken a lead role in organizing hundreds of agency and community hampers, and improved processes. Candace works diligently to help keep everyone... informed and uphold safety measures. Candace brings a no-nonsense-matter of fact-get-things-done vibe to Reception, and yet she combines this approach with compassion, professionalism, patience, and wisdom, making her a great fit to welcome our community and keep us all on track throughout the day. One of the many things Candaces colleagues really like about her is that she has a way of taking the reins and improving things, and just charging full steam ahead. Even if others may disagree in the moment, her colleagues report that Candaces ideas end up working out really well-which makes others grateful for her determination to just charge right ahead. Go Candace! When asked what they would like to share about Candace on her work anniversary, here are a few things her coworkers had to say: Shes very funny, shes very cool to hang out with, even if we have a different age but she knows how to relate to me. She is very encouraging, shes like a mother figure to me, she is kind. I love hanging out with her and making jokes! We laugh a lot together. Candace is very tough, and she is direct and I like that! Candace is very maternal, she has a way of reading and knowing you and saying the right things in the moment, she is very forgiving, and has a quiet resolve. Candaces love of family is well known, she has a strong family, and her family is very important to her. She is friendly, and talks to everyone. When Candace comes in she always says good morning, she is funny & cheerful. Candace, we are lucky to have you steering the ship in Reception. Happy Anniversary- we look forward to many more years with you! P.S. Candace (not in picture) asked us to not include her picture in the post.

It is a little-known fact that our Garden Patch is off the grid. That means we rely on the power of the sun to keep our office going. This is another fantastic way Aberhart Ag Solutions has been supporting the Garden Patch.

Amber Clare joined the @yxefoodbank team four years ago as Creating Opportunities Program Manager, overseeing our adult literacy and workplace experience program. With each new intake of participants throughout the year, Amber succeeds in creating a welcoming, positive, and fulfilling learning environment for each and every unique participant. Amber leads with a quiet confidence; she is admired for her calm presence, level head, and ability to see a situation from all sides. ...She strives to build trust, team, and community partnerships, and exhibits integrity and grace in her relationships and in her work. Always seeking to learn and grow, she is a recent graduate of the Leadership Saskatoon Program. With a strong passion for justice and understanding, she also represents the SFBLC at the Reconciliation Saskatoon table, and helps lead our organisations efforts around Truth and Reconciliation. Outside of work we know Amber is a wonderful mama to her three young children, and we love hearing her endearing stories about the littles in the lunchroom. A fierce advocate for adult learning and workplace skills development, she continuously seeks to build a stronger program which supports folks as they move to further education and/or employment, while never losing sight of each individuals learning journey, challenges, and successes. During these uncertain times, we are even more grateful for continued partnerships with organizations in our community. The Mosaic Company has been supporting the Gardening 101 program since 2016, which has enabled us to teach gardening, leadership, and workplace experience skills to our community, for free. Thank you to The Mosaic Company for supporting another wonderful season at the Garden Patch!

The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre would like to extend its gratitude to DRIVING FORCE Vehicle Rentals, Sales, and Leasing for lending us this fine-looking passenger van for the last two months at no cost, allowing us to safely transport our program participants in socially-distanced comfort. We were thrilled to make use of this wonderful partnership between Food Banks Canada and Driving Force Canada, who stepped up to support food banks responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you, Melissa & team at Driving Force, Saskatoon Branch!
