Acting as a health guide Successful treatment plans come with living a healthy lifestyle. I aim to act as a guide for a healthy lifestyle; by giving you the tools and information to reach your goals. Great success comes with the client doing the leg work and making conscious decisions about their health everyday, not just in our appointment

Pain free vs. complete relief As our treatment plan progresses there will be times that the client is pain free. Though this is a great sign of progress, there is still some work to be done. Follow up treatments will include testing to see if the pain is gone for good or if further (or altered) treatment is needed

Balancing strength and mobility Through everyday life and exercise, greater demands are placed on specific muscles. These muscles breakdown then rebuild stronger and tighter. Introducing exercise or stretching that aims to reduce tension while maintaining strength can greatly reduce discomfort and improve performance

Deeper pressure in treatment does not always produce greater results By working through all levels of tissue using a variety of pressure and techniques, we are able to reach deeper structures without discomfort Some conditions do require a lot of pressure but it can be done without pain

Posture and improvised workstations Having been back for a month now, trends from quarantine lifestyle are starting to show Many people have been moved to a work from home situation. With the use of improvised workstations, ergonomics go out the window. Same hours, different positions; leads to immense changes in loading on the body. Taking the time to ensure you have good ergonomics is well worth the effort. If you have any questions about ergonomics feel free to reach out

As a part of my stir crazy quarantine circuit I have included knee drop lunges with 30 lbs. in a backpack and a lacrosse ball. By incorporating resistance, balance and coordination I aim to mimic sport as best I can during quarantine. Circuit: High knee stair climb (8 stairs) > knee drop lunges (20 reps) > Burpees (10 reps) Repeat 3 times

Two Stories from Acupuncture School I saw great results in two big ways while receiving treatment in my acupuncture program 1. Using 5 points in the exterior of the ear, the sympathetic nervous system is targeted and stress is reduced greatly. When I had these points used on me I felt my body become very heavy and the lights in the room seemed to pulse. Upon standing, I felt lighter; as if every step was a tip toe. That night, I slept the best I have in my whole life. 2.I had... low back pain from driving to Hamilton early in the morning to make it to class. With testing to determine I had limited mobility in my left hip, Using 4 points in my thigh and 1 point on my abdomen, we were able to move my hip form no mobility to full range in 20 minutes. The point used on my abdomen was stimulated by the therapist and created a mildly uncomfortable sensation. However, with such great results the discomfort was worth the relief Great way of treatment, with great results 2

This week I have changed up my routine and have started to include podcasts into each day. Ultimate Health Podcast is by far my favourite. Topics on nutrition, exercise and mindfulness are really engaging. They also provide lots of contacts and links to resources that are awesome for health. Office Ladies is second and discusses a show I have watched many times Both are worth a listen! ... Stay home, stay safe :) See more

Treating 'Flare Ups' versus Chronic Pain Goals for treatment vary from client to client; and day to day. Many conditions experience a 'flare up' of symptoms. On these days, our goal is to reduce pain and improve feeling of well being to allow the flare up to pass more quickly. During treatment of chronic conditions that are not in pain the goal shifts to promoting healthy movement and habits that prevent flare ups. Either way, I hope to have you leaving the treatment with less pain and tools that allow yo u to prevent deterioration of symptoms
