We are all Treaty People. Today, Acadia University honours the National day for Truth and Reconciliation by cancelling all classes and suspending non-essential services. At Acadia, with guidance from Indigenous Advisor Darlene Copeland and Elder-in-Residence Dr. Joe Michael, students in Dr. Cynthia Alexander’s courses are working with the Glooscap First Nation and the Town of Wolfville. Together, we are hosting a five-day Mawio’mi, which begins today, on the National Day for ...Truth and Reconciliation, marks Treaty Day on October 1, and culminates on October 4 with the Sisters in Spirit Vigil for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Acadia University is committed to helping our campus and community learn more about the history and future of Indigenous Peoples. Acadia gave me a chance. I think that’s the number one thing that I’m trying to do with the awards program: just give people a chance. At the end of the day, w...hen the profs had taught me what they could and I had learned what I could, it was up to me. That’s what I’m giving the students, and hopefully also giving Acadia a chance to attract the students who want to go there. #CampaignforAcadia Cabinet member Kevin Mullen (’86), founder and president of Empire Kitchen and Bath, and Empire Custom Homes. The notion of family and taking care of one another are threads that are woven through the fabric of #AcadiaU’s illustrious 182-year history. One family in particular has had a significant and enduring impact, tending carefully to the University’s students, faculty and staff while quietly establishing itself as Acadia’s most generous benefactors: the Arthur Irving family of Saint John, NB. #WhatDonorsDo #CampaignforAcadia #ThankYou
