Effective immediately, all designated parents/patient supports in inpatient areas will be required to wear a mask when staff and physicians are in the room with them. This is to reduce the risk of an inadvertent exposure and aims to keep patients, parents, staff and physicians safe. Continuous masking remains a requirement for staff and physicians.

Thinking of supporting or visiting a patient at Alberta Children’s Hospital? Children who attend the hospital for appointments must be accompanied by one adult only. All visitors will be screened at the entrance. For the safety of our staff and other patients, please note that siblings or any children under 14 years are not permitted at this time. We are currently permitting two caregivers at the bedside for inpatients and in the emergency department. Children 14 years and ol...der are permitted to visit inpatients as one of the two caregivers at the bedside, provided they are accompanied by an adult. The safety of patients and staff is paramount at Alberta Children’s Hospital and we thank everyone for their support and understanding as our COVID-19 response evolves.

On September 1, parking fees for the public will be reinstated at all AHS facilities, including Alberta Children’s Hospital. To continue to ensure the safety of our patients, families, and staff, and as part of our routine Infection Prevention and Control measures, AHS Parking Services has completed enhanced cleaning, and will continue to regularly clean all parking payment machines. Signs encouraging social distancing will be in place in areas where this additional guidanc...e will help further reduce the spread of COVID-19. We encourage you to use the AHS parking app, which can be downloaded for free to any iPhone or android device. As always, we ask everyone to continue to be respectful of the parking spaces for patients, families, and visitors, as well as spaces reserved for emergency personnel, physicians, barrier free stalls, pick-up and drop-off zones, and fire lanes. For more information on parking at AHS facilities, visit ahs.ca.

As we head into the first official weekend of summer vacation, our pediatric teams are reminding families about the dangers of all-terrain vehicles, following an unusually high number of hospital admissions due to ATV injuries. Nearly 1,500 Alberta children and youth are injured on ATVs each year and the Canadian Paediatric Society says children under 16 should never ride ATVs, even as a passenger.

As we continue to work to ensure the safety of our patients, families and visitors during the ongoing pandemic, Emily’s Back Yard child minding space remains closed. Visitors under the age of 18 are currently not permitted into ACH and please note we are currently not offering child care options on site. Our hospital currently has screeners at the entrance to greet each visitor, conduct health screening and verify each individual is authorized to visit. We encourage families ...and caregivers to pre-arrange child care for siblings with family, friends, neighbours, or other trusted individuals prior to visiting patients, or attending outpatient appointments onsite. We understand this may be difficult for some families. These are extraordinary times and we must continue to ensure we are working as diligently as possible to stop the potential spread of COVID-19. Thank you for your ongoing patience and support as we work through this pandemic.
