Bicycles are often stolen so the thief can get someplace late at night. Many times the bike is just dumped in a ditch or behind a bush. If it is not identifiable or picked up from the police, it may just be sold at auction. During your time at home, etch your name on your bikes and write down the brand and registrations numbers. You can also place a wireless GPS tracking device on your bike. It may not be that far away. Be careful NOT to go on someone's property. That is the time to call the police.

Do you live in an area where delivered packages are easily seen from the road? There is also a disturbing trend where thieves follow delivery vehicles around neighbourhoods for easy pickings off your front porch while you’re not home. Consider building a locked box for a system that works much like a postal strong box. Direct couriers to put parcels in the self-locking box and leave the spare key inside with the parcel.
