COVID has highlighted that access to a safe, secure and affordable home is essential to a person’s health and well-being. Today, we announced the approval of Toronto's Investment Plan to receive more than $203 million through the federal Rapid Housing Initiative. This will allow us to create 540 new, permanent affordable homes, prioritized for people experiencing homelessness. We have also committed to allocate 20% to Indigenous people and 20% to women and girls. Many will also support seniors, youth and racialized communities. These homes will be delivered rapidly and will be ready for occupancy this year. This would not have been possible without the substantial commitment we have seen from the Federal government, and through strong partnerships between our governments.
