Happy Friday, I hope everyone had a great week. Looks like we are going to get a little of everything when it comes to weather this weekend. Saturday looks like the day to get outside. A little fun info from this week...... Did you know that this past Monday March 1st was National Pig Day. Apparently the purpose of the National Pig Day is to accord the pig, it’s rightful, though generally unrecognized place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals. ... Hope you all get some time to do what makes you happy this weekend. BE KIND. BE CALM. BE SAFE.

We're taking some time to have a look back at our history by telling the story of one of the past presidents of the IPE, as a way to celebrate our 121 years. Our past presidents series is proudly presented by Valley First. Enjoy this #flashbackfriday, it's our second to last one! This week: Mrs. Jeanne Noble Harter 2012 - 2015 Jeanne's passion for the IPE goes back for generations, it has been a family affair. Jeanne’s great grand parents moved to Armstrong in the early... 1900’s. The fair was always an important part of the family farm life. Community service is a Noble Family tradition and Jeanne’s parents were made lifetime members of the IPE. Jeanne has spent most of her life working as a parts manager for her family business (Noble Tractor & Equipment) which was established in 1963. Her family has been showing case equipment at the IPE since then. Jeanne was involved with 4-H swine and food for many years at the fair, her specialty became the food review in the Home Arts Division. Jeanne has two children and four grandkids. Her children were involved in helping her run the Scout’s concession, which she did for over 20 years. She became an IPE Director in 1998 and Executive Director in 2002. In 2003 Jeannie was put in charge of the ground’s layout for the IPE and she continued with that until 2011. She met her husband (Tom Harter) at the IPE in 2006 while he was manning the Tolko Display. Jeanne is an active Past President who devotes her time to the IPE. She is a great asset! See more

Happy New Year! Getting back into our look back at our history. Each week we are telling the story of one of the past presidents of the IPE, as a way to celebrate our 121 years. Our past presidents series is proudly presented by Valley First. Enjoy this #throwbackthursday. This week: Mr. Doug Hunt 1991 - 1992 Mr. Doug Hunt was originally from Brandon, Manitoba. He went from Brandon to Chilliwack, then to Kamloops. From Kamloops he moved to Armstrong in 1972. During thi...s time Mr. Hunt was a trucker and a farmer. He drove trucks for Canadian Shows midway, now West Coast Amusements, after which he drove transport trucks. Once in Armstrong Mr. Hunt began to farm. In addition to helping the Westwold 4H Beef Club, Mr. Hunt started getting involved with the IPE, and for 8 years he operated the scale rack for the open beef class of the fair. He became livestock superintendent of the fair, a director in 1985, and in 1991 he was installed as president. During this time Mr. Hunt was the livestock superintendent.. Today, Mr. Doug Hunt is very much an active Past President. He attends all events and is quick to provide feedback to the association to assist in continuing to evolve the IPE. See more

We're taking time this year to have a look back at our history. Each week we are telling the story of one of the past presidents of the IPE, as a way to celebrate our 121 years. Our past presidents series is proudly presented by Valley First. Enjoy this #throwbackthursday. This week: John Fowler 1966-1967 In 1906, John Fowler travelled with his parents from Manitoba to the Spallumcheen area. They called their farm Colony Gardens, after which Colony street is named. Mr. ...Fowler quit school when in 1914 he joined the military for World War I. After the war in 1924 he was married and started working at a vegetable warehouse. This was the same year he showed his first vegetables at the IPE. He later had a 10 acre farm on which he grew asparagus. He married a widow with six children after his first wife died in 1944, leaving him with one child. When he became ill, Mr. Fowler traded houses with a friend in town and went into semi-retirement in 1960. Mr. Fowler was president of the IPE from 1966 to 1967. He was also involved in a great number of other organizations like the Legion, the Chamber of Commerce, the school board, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows to name a few. His involvement in the Legion spanned over 57 years. Mr. Fowler died in 1978. See more

Our past presidents series is proudly presented by Valley First. This week: L.K. Lalonde 1960-1961 Prince Albert was Mr. Lloyd LaLonde’s home before moving to Vernon. In Vernon he met his wife, Phillis, who was a relative of Percy French, an early president. Soon Mr. Lalonde became involved in the light horse division of the fair. He also got his brother Jay Lalonde involved as well. Mr. LaLonde ran the division before his brother Jay took it over. It is now run by Jay’s wife, June. Mr. Lalonde made his living as a dairy farmer, on a farm just outside of Vernon towards Lumby. He was also a member of the Vernon Riding Club.
