In the summer of 2019, two strangers, Broken Social Scene / Do Make Say Think multi-instrumentalist Charles Spearin and Swedish violinist Josefin Runsteen, met during a residency in northern Italy organized by Feist and Damien Rice. After testing the colourful acoustics of a tiny, centuries chapel on the property, they began recording an improvisational avant classical album. The chapel holds a sense of humble sacredness emanating from every corner. The Renaissance frescoes ...that adorn the plaster ceilings are beautiful, but what connects one to the heart of the place is the ancient graffiti covering the walls. Hundreds of years ago, scrawled in Latin, are the words Please, God, save us from the Plague and then, over top, are various symbols of gratitude painted once the Black Death had finally moved on. Chinese-British pianist and composer Theo Alexander has released a frenetic, multi-layered piano composition entitled "Disappearing Altogether". The single was mixed by electronic music veteran Joel Ford and will be accompanied by a remix from Visible Cloaks. Listen: https://theoalexander.lnk.to/DisappearingAltogether Disappearing Altogether is based on an earlier, much more conventional piano piece I wrote in 2015, explains Alexander. I took it completely apart, preserving only select elements of the original tonality. I wanted to accelerate the whole thing, make it completely ecstatic without it losing control. It might sound quite joyful, but I rather intended it to have a kind of anxious joy that remains unresolved.

Reuben and the Dark's new song arrives on an updraft of hope and auspicious melody. It feels different from other Reuben and the Dark songs. It is intentionally gentle and upbeat. It was written from a perspective of hope; hope is looking ahead to a future that is unknown. Welcome UK-based pianist/composer Theo Alexander. The Chinese-British London native has a composition style grounded in neoclassical piano, but interwoven with cassette four-track tape loops and manipulations to create a dreamlike state that sounds as if the music is being remembered in real time, not so much eroding as shifting, becoming amorphous with every note played.
