For years I've wanted to teach a yoga series for people who do laborious work. One where we can learn from each other and work out our physical issues in a non-judgemental space. Pain around one side of your sacrum slowing you down? Maybe it's the piriformis. Below is a highly informative link addressing this. At the end it suggests Lotus pose, or Pigeon pose with the aching leg forward (shin parallel to your mat) and twisting toward that knee. Why yogis are so hung up on "breathe" and "listen to you body": -Breathing deeply activates you prefrontal cortex (the brain's centre for higher thought). One study found that after 20 minutes of yoga, people scored higher on a cognitive test (Gothe, 2013). -"Oxygen alone ensures the heart carries on beating, 'buying time' for tissues to heal and the complications of impaired body function to be attended to (Le Fanu, 1999)."... -A study found that women who could accurately count their heartbeats objectified themselves less. In other words, value how your body works over what 'looks good.' Quiet the mind chatter & the self trash talk by appreciating simplicity and physiology.

Evvvveryone should learn shoulder alignment before engaging in a yoga practice! These pointers are identical to those we learned in our teacher training for Hatha yoga in the Anusara style. we're all getting colds this time of year. In my next classes I'll experiment w/ the following practices to relieve such ailments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMtEhk3zDB4. You can also try this modified child's pose: http://www.prevention.com/fitness//yoga-poses-cold-symptoms ... to stimulate pressure points on the head to aid your sinuses. Teachers can also try repeating the mantras "breathing better" or "feeling better" in between every set of directions for each pose. Then that mantra will itself become a direction for the student to follow, like "engage abdominal muscles" or "exhale."
