Now, this is a nice way to begin a work week. With a Best of Show & 2 Golds for They Stopped Bullets, our spot for New Canadian Media, a Gold and Silver for our posters for The Tartan Turban Secret Readings and a Gold & Silver for the social media work and brochure we did for Looking at the Stars' prison music outreaches. And 7 Top Agency Awards. That's 14 Summit International Awards the most we've ever won at this show that celebrates the creativity of small and medium-sized advertising agencies. There were more than 4100 submissions from 27 countries this year. Congrats to our amazing teams and the clients that believed in this work. #bloodygreatideas #bloodyamazingpeople

We are delighted to announce that we won 10 Marketing awards (4 silvers, 3 bronzes and 3 merits) in the multicultural category yesterday that's more than any other agency in the category. We couldn't have done it without the passionate creativity of our team and truly supportive clients. It's a combination that can't be beaten. Thank you TD (2 silvers, 2 merits), Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada (2 bronzes), New Canadian Media (1 silver, 1 merit) for your belief in this work. Here's a link where you can see all the work that won! https://marketingawards.strategyonline.ca/winn/winner/2020 #multiculturalmarketing #multiculturaladvertising #minoritycommunications
At Barrett and Welsh, we like to say we just make the ideas. It's the ideas that make the news. This #MulticulturalMonday, we're delighted to share that our campaign for the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada was covered in The Message Canada. Take a look at what they had to say - and do support SHMC by liking their Facebook page or visiting their website and donating to their very important work. https://the-message.ca//new-campaign-tells-the-stories-of/ #diversityandinclusion #minoritycommunications #multiculturaladvertising
Diversity and Inclusion. Speak to all Canadians!
We'd like to close #AsianHeritageMonth with the second ad in our campaign for the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada. It tells the story of RCMP Officer Baltej Singh Dhillon who fought for the right to serve this country in his turban and beard (and won). We are proud to share this work and to help SHMC preserve and honour Sikh struggles and Sikh contributions in Canadian history. Do take a moment to read the ad its a long read but it helps us all understand how minorities in Canada have had to fight, not just for their rights but for their very identity. The battle continues. Please do support the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada - visit their website at SHMC.ca or like their FB page. Every bit of attention helps. #multiculturalmarketing #multiculturaladvertising #racism #discrimination #diversityandinclusion
Racialized Canadians are among our most vulnerable during COVID19. Are you speaking to them or are forgetting them when you communicate? Are your messages reaching them in a way that's useful? For your #MulticulturalMonday reading, we once again point you in the direction of this thought-provoking article for Strategy by our CEO Ishan Ghosh which examines how you can make your messaging more inclusive when people need it most. #DiversityandInclusion

The newspaper ad thats attached to this post begins this way. "May 23rd 1914. Burrard Inlet, usually frequented by pods of orcas, receives a visitor from India. The Komagata Maru has arrived with 376 passengers 337 are Sikhs. This is their story: a story in which a ship filled with British subjects is turned away from British Columbia by the Royal Canadian Navy." Today is the anniversary of the Komagata Marus arrival 106 years ago and the start of one of the most disturbin...g incidents in Canadian history. We are proud to share the ads we created to frame this incident in our memories work we did for the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada, which preserves and honours Sikh struggles and Sikh contributions in Canadian history. Please do read the ad its a long read but an important one. We'll be sharing the entire campaign in a series of posts.

Barrett and Welsh provides advertising support to Looking at the Stars. So it made sense for copywriter Gautham Seran and co-founder Gavin Barrett to attend its concert on Monday, November 18th, 2019, at Collins Bay Institution. It was a cold, blustery day. Still, there was an unusual warmth within the prisons high walls as 11 of Canadas foremost chamber soloists led by TSO Concertmaster Jonathan Crow performed for the inmates. Today, on #GivingTuesday, we ask those who fol...Continue reading
