Media Release For Immediate Release... Abandoned ‘Miracle Puppies’ Celebrate First Birthday Media event to reunite dogs found by dumpster in 2019 North Bay, ON - Last August, when Darlene Sacher heard that the North Bay and District Humane Society had taken in 11 puppies abandoned by a local dumpster, she knew she had to help. Little did she know that in a year, after adopting one of what she calls the miracle puppies, she would be organizing their first birthday party. At first, I just wanted to help in any way I could. I reached out to Janet at the Humane Society about fostering a puppy for a few weeks. But once Sully came home, I knew he’d be staying with me forever. Sully, a Mastiff-Lab mix now weighing 116 lb, had an uncertain start to life. On Monday, August 19, 2019, a litter of 11 newborn puppies was found abandoned by a dumpster at a local park. Without a nursing mum, the pups were in need of emergency intervention to survive. After posting a messaging asking for help, the North Bay Humane Society was inundated with calls and messages to help; many offered to foster and volunteer, dozens donated money and one was able to provide a lactating mother to help feed the young pups. In total, more than 150,000 people saw the call for help. The eleven dogs in care at the Humane Society were now called Miracle Puppies. This Saturday, Darlene is organizing a birthday party to celebrate the resiliency of the 11 Miracle Puppies. For the first time since they left the Humane Society, Sully will reunite with his siblings and meet their humans. Members of the public are invited to take part in the event, but must practice social distancing and wear masks or face coverings. Best Care Kennels is accepting monetary and in-kind donations on behalf of the North Bay Humane Society so they can assist more abandoned and unwanted animals. *** Event Details What: Miracle Puppies Birthday Bash Where: Community Dog Park, Champlain Park Rd When: Saturday, August 29, 2020 - 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Please note that the Community Dog Park will be closed to the general public for the duration of the event, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm inclusive. Here's your #GoodNewsCrew update for Wednesday: these two beautiful ladies got a new lease on life - and a new do - courtesy of our friend Darlene over at Best ...Care Kennels. Darlene, you're our hero! :) When our pair of Australian shepherds - Kanga and Oy - came to us, they had been neglected and uncared for and their fur was matted and overgrown. We knew we had to do something to lift their spirits! So after their head to toe grooming at Best Care, we thought they could benefit from a mini photo shoot! Kanga and Oy bring a lot of joy to each other's lives and yesterday they brought that same joy to ours! Amazing! <3

Kindness and giving comes in many forms--and the impact is immeasurable. At the Humane Society, we are so fortunate to have friends and well-wishers dedicating ...to improving animal welfare in our region -- friends like Darlene from Best Care Kennels! When two stray dogs came in with extensive fur matting, Darlene wanted to help out the two lovable strays pictured below and offered her grooming services free of charge. How amazing is that? Thanks to Darlene's gift, these old girls - Betty and Judy - regained their dignity and felt the love and compassion they so richly deserve. We're happy to say that these two pups have since been spayed and vaccinated and are now awaiting vet clearance to become adoptable!

ATTENTION FELLOW PET OWNERS! Dr. Teresa was out enjoying the fall weather this weekend with her dog Roger and had taken him to The Yarlasky Field in Callander w...hich is beside the Callander Community Center. He became interested in something in the ground and started digging and began to eat what he found. Dr. Teresa went over to investigate as she thought he had just found some tasty goose poop and to her horror found a pile of raw hamburger that was placed under the soil. Roger ended up sniffing out 4 piles of raw hamburger in the field that seemed to be purposely placed and hidden under the soil. Dr. Teresa immediately induced vomiting just to be sure as it seemed suspicious. We don’t want to assume the worst but want our clients and fellow pet owners (including outdoor cats) to be cautious when out and about with your pet and of course, seek medical attention immediately if they ingest anything that doesn’t seem right. Update!!! 10/22/19 We have contacted the authorities and we will keep you updated if/when we get more news on what was found!

Hello to Granitville families; we thought it would be important to inform pet owners & those with children that there is a dog in the Granitville area attacking... dogs (and has killed one). The dogs that have been attacked are walking on leash with their owners or in their own yard. The police & humane society have been contacted - The dog is a rot mix and is extremely agressive. We wanted you to be aware and vigilant.
