World Heritage Wednesday! Looking across the stark white of Bolivia’s salt flats, unable to see anything else in the distance, is an experience unlike any other. As the world’s largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni stretches out across more than 10,000 square kilometres. It’s meters thick layer of salt forms an otherworldly hexagonal pattern when it dries out. When it rains, the layer of water forms the world’s largest mirror. Peppering the white expanse are unique islands, home to isolated ecosystems of animals and plants, with cactus species reaching up to 12 metres high. World Heritage Wednesday! The Peruvian archaeological complex of Chan Chan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that used to be the capital of the Chimu Kingdom, which reached its peak in the 15th century. Chan Chan was actually the largest city in Pre-Columbian America!
