Youth Employment: An Industry like Any Other! (First published in 2014) Paradigm... Countries in several developing regions enjoy "raw" human resources that are among the best in the world. They are young, and in certain nations highly educated in large numbers. Significant portions of this population, including girls, are mathematics majors. This potential remains largely unexploited due to limited professional integration. In today's information age, companies manage large volumes of data in their decision-making process but relatively few have adequate capabilities to face related technological and operational challenges. Four root causes are at the origin of these and other difficulties. 1. The management of many companies does not always include highly technical professionals with decades of relevant experience, who could facilitate technological integration. 2. Young people, including highly-educated university graduates, enjoy a strong theoretical and technological basis without field experience or the capability to integrate these tools into business. On the LinkedIn "Data Marketing Toronto" Group, Dudley Stevenson CEO, DWS Associates described Facebook's new offline sales measurement trick as "questionable marketing metrics". Are they? Most if not all metrics on non-trivial phenomena are questionable. While no outsider really knows what Facebook does with its data including feedback from stores, it is in fact possible to conduct analyses to validate historic findings by Facebook. The only requirement is to have large samples of data after Facebook ads are run and those without any supposed influence by Facebook ads (to use as control groups.) Massive production statistics can fairly easily tell whether purchases are random or clearly correlated with Facebook ads; they will also provide a measure for the level of correlation. ...
