Tight hips. It’s an all-too-common ailment associated with modern lifestyles that's become even more prominent as we spend hours each day sitting and working from home. As a result, it’s natural to want to stretch out, free or open up our hips. Stretching tight muscles (as good as this may feel), however, is often not the best solution.

As Toronto receives some not-so-fun news about restrictions coming into effect early Monday, we want to share with you a little fun fact about stress and movement. As we know, we cannot escape feelings of stress and anxiety. It is part of human nature and it serves a purpose. Therefore, the idea is not to try and eliminate stress from our lives but instead control how much we allow these feelings to affect us. Purposeful movement and exercise has been shown to help limit the effects of stress on the brain. So, even if you feel like you don’t have time or there is too much going on, carve out just 20 minutes (more if you can!) to get up and get moving stay strong everyone, we’ll get through this!

Why participate in live online classes? As online workouts grow in popularity, we are inundated with options of where, when and how to work out. This flexibility is incredibly beneficial for those of us who have complex and varying schedules but there is also a priceless satisfaction to scheduling a time and making a commitment to yourself to show up and exercise with other people in a community setting. Getting to see familiar faces, and have the guidance and knowledge of a professional is motivating and so incredibly important not only for our physical well-being but for our minds and spirits as well. Here’s what some of our clients have been saying If you want to join us for online classes in the month of October, you can sign up here: https://www.bodyharmonics.com//pilates-live-classes-onlin/

Have you ever scowled with envy at that one friend or family member who seems to be blessed with the morning person gene? They’re up before the sun rises and seem to have boundless energy leaving the rest of us to just admit defeat and feel as though early mornings are just an unfortunate reality we can’t escape. Well here’s a little secret, there’s no special gene or superpower that makes early mornings enjoyable for some and not for others. It’s something we need to work ...at and commit to. Here are a few of our tips to help make yourself into the morning person you’ve always wanted to be! Use an alarm clock! Don’t bring your phone into your bedroom at bedtime. It’s a major distraction before falling asleep and an even bigger distraction when waking up and starting our day. Once your alarm on your phone goes off and you pick it up, there’s an overwhelming temptation to just stay in bed a while longer and browse social media and texts. drink water as soon as you wake up! Your body has gone for roughly 8 hours without any hydration, and re-hydrating as soon as you open your eyes helps you to feel more alert and less groggy plan an awesome breakfast! Make it the night before or have in your mind what you want to make, and make sure you’ve got all the ingredients! A yummy meal to look forward to will making getting out of bed easier and will start your whole day on the right foot make a plan with a friend to go for a walk or book a workout class that starts early. Committing to other people helps make it easier to get up and you’ll feel so much better afterwards! Do you have any tips or tricks that work for you? Let us know in the comments below!

Join us for FREE pop-up clinics focused on the Pilates Classical exercises designed by Joseph Pilates. The truth is, the Pilates Classical repertoire can be gruelling, complicated, and demotivating. And the exercises can build tension and strain (especially the lower back and neck). We want to change that! Based on the principles of biomechanics and the pedagogical model from our training programs for teachers and movement educators, these clinics give you a glimpse at the te...chnical considerations and steps to make the movements flow with ease and power. Our first clinic is happening Tue, Sep 29, 5:30-6:30 PM on Zoom This clinic will focus on the Double Leg Stretch. When it comes to a strong core, it is imperative to consider many layers of muscles and directions of movement. With the Pilates Classic, Double Leg Stretch, the support you build through the midriff is challenged by the weight of the limbs. And so, the key to optimal execution is to coordinate all the moving parts so legs and arms feel light while the torso feels like the hub of support. Come and learn to build this exercise step-by-step so you feel strong and coordinated from head to toe without strain in your neck or lower back. Pilates Classic Clinic for Double Leg Stretch is open to ALL! Click here to sign up: https://www.bodyharmonics.com//pilates-classics-pop-up-cl/

Good morning everyone and happy Monday! Today’s exercise sequence focuses on the fascial net and working the fascia, a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. Although we can't feel the fascia being worked in our body, the change in the speed of our movements is the most effective tool we can use to work this tissue. So, focus on feeling the change in your movements and the variations of speed instead! We hope you enjoy this exercise video and we hope it leaves you feeling great!

Research shows changing the way we breathe can influence weight, athletic performance, allergies, asthma, snoring, mood, stress, focus and so much more." This article discusses the importance of breath in nearly every aspect of our lives and well being. It also offers great exercises to improve your breathing, helping you to feel and move better in your everyday life.
