I wanted to share this beautiful poem written by one of our guests Moments on Browns Bay Pier ...... I sit on the pier where the ocean whirls by,... gently lapping on the shore rocks below. The wooden bench beneath me still damp with mornings dew, I notice the sea meets the mountains and the mountains meet the sky. Lower clouds on the setting’s edge as if to frame the scene. It is all a puzzle that fits together so beautifully. I suddenly hear a gush of water signaling a humpback is nearby, The sea lion splashes by and dives up and down with bursts of sighs and grunts to welcome the day. The resident seal’s head bobs as he traverses the bay to address the new visitors The swallows,crows and kingfishers busy themselves with their morning hunt of fish . A pleasing creation of nature where the beings forge for only on what is needed to exist in this beautiful place. To find a place of peace and calm like this would always qualify, to taking a few moments to reflect on oneself of days and people gone by. A place where human hearts can cleanse and address any inner cries and feel the solitude of its magnificence beneath the sky Feeling sentiments of joy,sadness,hope or love that can only be faced and left here on the pier. Emotions might be whisked away by some eagles overhead , To settle in the wind or sea dispersing them far and wide. That majestic bird can carry more than fish along the Oceanside. Another day is launched at Brown’s Bay,this special place of mine. Debbie Baratta

Build in 1944 The Colonel Lawson was operated by the Canadian Army during the Second World War. While from 1947-1958 being used to fish tuna off the coast of Mexico. After the Second World War she was laid up at a ship boneyard in BC.
