With the increasing case numbers of COVID-19 in the HRM, we want to remind our clients of the existing and new protocols we have in place to help keep everyone safe. - We encourage curbside delivery for food and prescription pick ups. Please call ahead with your order and then call upon arrival and one of our staff members will bring your order directly out to your vehicle. Payment can be made over the phone or via portable debit. - For appointments, only one member of the ...household should be in attendance. Exceptions can be made for end of life appointments. - When you are arriving for your appointment, please call upon arrival. When an exam room becomes available, we will call you and let you know when to enter the building and you will be escorted to an exam room. Please sanitize your hands upon entry and wear your face mask. - We are allowing a maximum of three customers at a time in the waiting room for proper social distancing. Because of the extra safety measures in place, you may experience longer than normal wait times. We appreciate your patience and kindness towards all staff members.

We are happy to announce that Dr Jessica Thompson has joined our team at BVH. She has been practicing around HRM for the past 5 years and is accepting new patients at Burnside Veterinary Hospital. Have you met Dr. Miriam Coulthard? Miriam started with us in December 2019 but due to covid we never managed to officially welcome her on Facebook. Dr Miriam is accepting new patients and looks forward to meeting you and your pets. Dr Miriam was born and raised in Halifax and received her BSc in Biology from Mount Allison University in 2009. After taking some time to travel, she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2017. After gra...duation, she completed a year-long internship in small animal medicine and surgery at a specialty referral practice in Toronto, and then worked as an emergency veterinarian at the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital. But after 10 years away, Miriam has happily returned to Nova Scotia with her husband and wiggly pup Alta. When not in clinic, Miriam enjoys baking, music, hiking, and gardening.

Burnside Veterinary Hospital is still open during these difficult times. We are here for you and your pets! We offer curb side pick-up and free delivery. ... Our current hours are: Monday to Friday 8am until 7pm Saturday 9am until 1pm Please be patient as we navigate through these difficult times. We are operating on a reduced staff. In order to keep team members safe, and be able to stay open in the event a team member gets sick, we have divided into two teams. Each team works separate days from each other. Prescription refills and medication pick-ups will take longer then they normally do. Clients calling to pickup supplies in the morning can pick-up after 12 noon. Calls made after noon will be available after 4pm. Please advise the receptionist when calling if this does not work for you. When you arrive to pick-up supplies please call and we will bring it to your vehicle. When you arrive for your appointment please call (902) 407-9663 and a staff member will bring your pet into the clinic for any necessary exams and procedures. A veterinarian will call after the examination to discuss findings and treatment plan. We are doing the best that we can during these difficult times. Did you know that at BVH we can run routine urine samples right here in the clinic? When your pet is coming in for a urine issue it can be helpful to bring a urine sample with you. Catching the sample can be tricky, but we have some hints! For cats set up a clean, dry litterbox with non-absorbent substrate or leave it empty. For dogs a clean disposable pie plate or soup ladle make catching the sample easier. After you have the sample, transfer it to a clean container and keep it in the fridge until your appointment. And remember the fresher the sample the better!

Burnside Veterinary Hospital 12.03.2020

Please be aware, Burnside Veterinary Hospital is doing our part to help flatten the curve of COVID-19. The health of our patients is paramount, but we are also concerned about the health of their owners. We know our beloved pets will still require veterinary care, need treatment, medications and other supplies. During this period, we would like our clients to know, we are here for you. (The World Health Organization states there is no evidence that a dog, cat or any pet can... transmit COVID-19. COVID-19 is mainly spread through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.). To help limit the number of clients in the building at any given time, we are extending our appointment times from 30 minutes to one hour. This allows for extra time for disinfection between appointments. We ask that you please phone ahead for any medication refills or food pick ups, to verify that we have the product and can set it aside for you. Also, at this time we will be providing a free home delivery option for our current clients. This will include delivery of food, product and medications. Please note, this service may take up to 24 hours. We would appreciate that if you are not feeling well, or have been outside of the country in the last 14 days, that you ask a friend or family member to bring your pet in for their appointment. Please try to limit the number of people coming to the appointment to two. Please note, in order to protect our staff, they may approach you wearing a mask and gloves. This is for their protection as well as yours. You may be taken directly into a room when you arrive, or alternatively, you have the option to remain in your vehicle. Please notify the front desk when you arrive, to help keep the waiting area as clear as possible. Our front desk and all surfaces, including chair arms and door handles will be disinfected periodically throughout the day. Hand sanitizer is available at the front desk. Hand washing is recommended. We are implementing a telephone recheck service. This will be a scheduled appointment for ongoing cases in which the Doctor feels comfortable that they can provide the same service via telephone. This will allow for greater social distancing and help keep our clients at lower risk. Please call 902-407-9663, to inquire for this service. We have temporarily removed our coffee, tea and water from the front area. If you would like any refreshments while you wait please ask any of the staff and they will be happy to accommodate. The childrens play desk has also been removed. We ask that clients pay with either a credit card, or debit if possible. We thank all of our clients for their understanding. Together we will keep our pets and each other healthy and safe. See more

Did you know cats are one of the post popular pets, but visit the vet less often than their canine counterparts? Wellness visits are an important part of your cats care. Many cats are stressed by vet visits, which means wellness exams often get overlooked. There are ways we can help your cat feel less stressed when they come in. Pheromones, hiding spots and elevated surfaces can all help cats feel more comfortable in the exam room. When you call to book your cats appointment ask us how we can help!
