Advent is a surrender to the will and the way of God. It is a longing for the transformation of our world that begins with the transformation of ourselves, of our communities, of our actions, of our ways of being. Not by our own doing or our own power, but by a trust in the power and presence of God to be with us to being active with us throughout this time and as we seek for it to happen.

Abbey Everett is the daughter of Rev. Brad Everett who ministers at St. Andrew’s in Gleichen. She is in grade 8. She heard that the Homeless Shelter on Siksika had been closed and she knew some of their Parishioners lived there, so she took $50 of her own babysitting money, (which her mom then matched) and talked with her teachers at Holy Cross Collegiate school in Strathmore and told them her plan to make "care" bags for the Siksika parishioners at St. Andrew's Church. She has since collected more donations which has allowed her to put together many bags to donate!!! Well done, Abbey! What a lesson and reminder to us all that we are all capable of much good in the midst of difficulty! Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. ~Matthew 25:40

Let us remember in our prayers the lives lost and those impacted by recent tragedies both here in Canada and globally. We pray for Ontario, Quebec, France and Austria as they seek to heal, recover and forgive after the events of this past week. As communities and churches work to move forward after such tragic events, they need the prayer support of the people of God more than ever.
