The capacity of forested lands to sequester carbon dioxide could be increased significantly. Experts from Tufts University Trinity College, Hartford Harvard Forest Schoolyard Ecology Highstead Foundation advocate for "an expansion of protected lands where forests are allowed to grow and develop, uninterrupted by resource extraction, as soon as possible."
