World Pest Day is June 6th Each year this day raises awareness about the importance of pest management for the health and safety of humans. Celebrated for the first time in Bejing in 2017 ‘The original goals and development processes of World Pest Day are to gain well-deserved respect for the global pest control industry and to open up a new way of thinking to facilitate industry’s public-facing platform and ultimately to achieve positive changes in public health.’ ... Pests are a threat in all parts of the world and the recent events of the Covid-19 pandemic, and its economic impact, has seen many businesses forgo pest control due to financial difficulties. This in turn has increased pest activity and presence, in urban areas especially, which increases the risk of pest related disease and damage. In an article released about World Pest Day 2020 the former president of the Federation of Asian & Oceania Pest Managers Associations stated: As a former president of the FAOPMA, I appeal to the public health authorities of all countries and regions, pest control professionals and general public: It is time to recognize the enormous contribution of pest control industry made to public health and to understand the key role pest control industry plays in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. #worldpestday #pestcontrol #covid19 #Terminix #rats #ants

Rats are in practically every part of the world and have expertly learned to live alongside humans. In fact some species rely completely on humans and their garbage for survival. Here are some amazing (or horrifying) things that rats can do: They can fall up to 50 feet without getting hurt.... They can fit through openings the size of a quarter. They can jump 3 feet up into the air and 4 feet vertically. They can climb brick walls, trees and telephone poles with ease. They are excellent swimmers, some species can tread water for 3 days and hold their breath for 3 minutes. They can make their way up sewer piping and into toilets. They can have as many as 12 babies every 30 days. The have teeth that never stop growing and can chew through soft concrete, wood, plastic, aluminum, and cinder blocks. They can carry and spread more than 35 different types of disease. Because of their adaptability and rapid reproduction rate (and all the other reasons listed above) it is important to act quickly if you have rat issues at your home or business. Open windows are one of the easiest ways for pests to gain access to your home.... Even windows with screens can be access points if the screens are not fitted correctly or they have tears.... This time of year is a great time to inspect your home and do some preventative maintenance to stop pests from making your home their home: Replace broken or torn screens.... Fill cracks and gaps around windows and doors and around foundations. Trim back trees and bushes that are close to the house. Remove old or rotting wood from your yard. If you find you are still having issues with pests contact us and we would be happy to help out! #pestcontrol #terminix #summer #bugs

With the reopening of restaurants, businesses have a lot of things to think about and a lot of new procedures to follow. One very important thing that they will also need to be on the look out for is increased rodent activity. Rats have been starved and displaced over the last few months and will quickly return to areas where the smell of food fills the air and garbage is readily available.... Food has become so scarce for rats in some areas that rats have become bolder, more aggressive and even cannibalistic just to survive. With the change in rodent behavior it is a good idea to consult the experts and have a plan in place for dealing with possible new issues.
