Please read this important article written by the Honourable Rob Moore , my colleague on the Justice Committee, which well reflects my own position on this legislation. Bill C-7 proposes to expand existing laws on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) . MP Moore is the Shadow Minister for Justice & Human Rights. Bill C-7 is currently before the Standing Committee for review. My Conservative colleagues and I have proposed several amendments to safeguard Canadians with disa...bilities and other vulnerable Canadians. #Essex #YQG #COVID #cdnpoli Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada

It warmed my heart to tour the Unemployment Help Centre this morning with June Muir, Executive Director. They are doing an amazing job helping people in Windsor and across the riding of Essex. They have fed 500,000 people across Ontario and 50,000 people are served through the centre each year. They have 120 people enrolled in classes which are currently happening online and they have 68 wonderful staff on their team making all that, and so much more, happen. Well done UHC and thank you for serving so many people in need in our area!!!! https://www.uhc.ca

It is a privilege and honour to serve on the Justice Committee. Last Tuesday, I had opportunity to pose questions to the witnesses that were speaking to the Committee regarding Bill C-7, an Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying (MAiD)) .

It was an honour to lay a wreath in remembrance in Cottam this afternoon. I also enjoyed speaking with the many servicemen and women after the proceedings at the local Legion Club. On this #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek, take time check in on your friends and loved ones. It’s important to talk about issues of mental health as each year, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness. #Essex #COVID19 #Windsor #YQG #ontario... Today, in the Town of LaSalle and across Canada, we remember all those Canadians who fought and died for our freedom. It is always sobering to remember such sacrifices but it also leaves me with a deep sense of gratitude for those who gave their lives. I encourage you to visit the LaSalle Cenotaph Park where there is a list of the 45 conflicts in which Canadian forces have been involved internationally. At 11:00 am, every November 11th, the sun shines through the Cenotaph... over a map of the globe listing those many conflicts in which Canadians have fought and died. I was honoured to lay a wreath there in remembrance today. Justin Trudeau has no plan for failed rent assistance program October 1, 2020 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE... Ottawa, ON Pierre Poilievre, Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance, and Pat Kelly, Conservative Shadow Minister for Small Business and Western Economic Development, released the following statement regarding the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) program and the Trudeau government’s failure to help small businesses: Justin Trudeau’s failed rent assistance program has ended, and the Liberals have no plan to help small businesses and their employees survive the second wave. The Liberals’ rent assistance program has been a disaster. It has done nothing for 90 per cent of small businesses in Canada and has been widely criticized by entrepreneurs across the country. The program should have sent assistance to small businesses, not the landlords, as this would have dramatically helped businesses pay their rent during the pandemic. Canada’s economic recovery is tied to the success of small businesses in Canada. These hard working and entrepreneurial businesses are how we will replace the one million missing paychecks in Canada, and it’s time that the Liberal government understood that. Conservatives will continue to stand up for workers and entrepreneurs across Canada. Under the leadership of Erin O’Toole, we will ensure that they get the support they need to weather this pandemic. #Essex #YQG #COVID19 #cdnpoli #Canada #CECRA #SmallBusiness Chris Lewis MP Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada

Bill C-3 (JUST Act) The federal government has reintroduced the Hon. Rona Ambrose’s bill (the JUST Act), as Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Judges Act and the Criminal Code. The new legislation reflects the amendments passed by the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs before the last election. If passed, the legislation will require judges to participate in continuing legal education with regards to sexual assault law.... The Canadian judiciary must be held accountable and ensure that judges have the updated training Canadians expect them to have. That is why we committed in our recent election platform to ensure that all judicial appointees take sexual assault sensitivity training prior to taking the bench. Canada’s Conservatives were proud to support the JUST Act in the last Parliament because we recognize that far too often the justice system fails to respect the experiences of victims of sexual assault. We would like to thank Rona Ambrose for her work on this important file. We will always look for ways to stand up for survivors of sexual assault and ensure they are treated with dignity.
