Can’t believe it’s getting to be that time of year already! With breeding season just around the corner I thought I would share this checklist provided by West Hills Vet Services. Now is the time to book your mares in to get all their pre-breeding maintenance done. In addition to this list we also recommend if your mares are currently open and require injections to maintain soundness, get those done NOW - highly recommend injections being performed at least 60days be...fore breeding. A number of broodmares are broodmare sound only but soundness can also be detrimental to the longevity of a broodmare. All mares have a different pain tolerance - some can carry a foal no problem and be hobbling around on two legs () but others can be very finicky and a slight lameness issue can cause all kinds of headaches while trying to get her to conceive. Also check for/remove caslicks; a number of performance and track mares have had a caslicks procedure to improve performance and lots of times people don’t even know their mare has had one done prior to purchasing them. It is good to have them removed with enough time to heal prior to breeding. If your mares are currently in foal it is always a good idea to have a discussion with your vet about what/when you can perform maintenance on bred mares and make yourself a schedule. There is a very narrow window for performing some procedures on bred mares and somethings that can’t be done while in foal and will need to be done right after foaling to ensure your not interfering with having her bred back. I will be honest and admit there is nothing more frustrating then forgetting to do something and having to postpone rebreeding a mare in the spring. Happy 2021 breeding and foaling season everyone!! I know I am sure getting excited seeing the large breeding facilities down south posting new babies already!!

Had to hold back a little emotion sending this filly off to her new home today. Quite a mix of emotions actually; a little sad to see her leave (I am with all our babies), very excited to see what the future has in store for her and to be quite honest a whole lot of pride! This filly is truly so special and I know she’s going to be treated like the Queen she thinks she is with Shawna Stratman and Cliff Stratman! Cliff & Shawna thank you for trusting in our program to come back for another prospect. It’s been an amazing 3yrs watching your journey with Chrome and looking forward to many more years of friendship!

CL Famously French Doja made her trek south to her new home this morning. This filly was a year and a half in the making for Allie Novotny! She had her name on our wait list for two mares, all she wanted was a coloured filly. Well one mare had a brown filly and the other a palomino stud colt! Lol After some going back and forth between the two she chose this stunning filly by Button Cute Fame, a daughter of Dash Ta Fame! Allie has been holding out hoping the border would open so she could come pick her up but finally caved to hiring a hauler. Thank you Allie for not throwing in the towel with all the 2020 BS. I can’t wait to see this filly grow up, she has wowed us since the day she was born. Even with all that hair the fancy shines through!

Round 1 of weaning today! I love bringing our babies home and starting our daily routine. So fun watching their personalities and independence shine through away from their mommas. We give them a couple days to settle in back at home and then kindergarten starts!

Well this guys not so bay anymore Forest probably has the most personality of all our foals this year! He loves attention but is also the deepest sleeper I’ve ever seen. There’s been a few breath catching moments calling him and running across the pen only to be greeted with a ever so slight raise of his head and a stink eye glare! Lol

I snapped this picture taking our first group of mares to pasture last week and boy does it tell a story! Flint’s owned and rode ALOT of horses in his life but not one he has been more proud of then the roan mare he’s sitting on. Inkys Blue aka Barbie was a force to be reckoned with in her days in the arena and she has blessed us with the most incredible babies the past 11yrs. This is 3 generations of Inkys Blue pictured together and we are so pleased that stubborn 22yr old caught first cycle back after foaling again this year! We see so much talent and potential in every single one of our babies but sometimes a foal is born and I literally get chills examining every square inch of their perfection! This filly has sure done that to me EVERY TIME I have looked at her since Monday.
