When we #StickWithSix the same six we keep our schools, our workplaces, and our loved ones safe. In personal settings when you're seeing friends and family who aren't in your bubble: Only get together in small groups of 2 to 6 people Maintain your physical distance with those outside your bubble and limit your time together Stay home and away from others if you have cold or flu-like symptoms Take extra precautions for those at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19, including older people and those with chronic health conditions

Whether you gather with friends and family for Thanksgiving, birthdays, religious holidays or just for fun, follow these guidelines to reduce your risk of COVID...-19 transmission for yourself, others, and your community. Do not host or attend a gathering if you are sick. Ask guests to stay home and not attend if they are sick or feeling unwell. Limit gatherings to a small number of family or friends that you are closest to. The number of people will depend on what you are comfortable with and your family situation. For extended family members or those who are at higher risk for COVID-19, look for ways for them to join the celebration virtually this year. If you need to travel for your gathering, take the necessary precautions. Check that the community is open to welcoming visitors. Review any travel restrictions, isolation requirement or other guidance for the province or country you are travelling to. Have guests wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival and when leaving your home. Remember to keep physical distance of 2 metres when possible, especially with guest you haven’t been seeing regularly. If possible, try to have one person cooking and serving food and drinks. Avoid family style communal dishes and have one person load and serve plates with food to limit the amount of surfaces touched by everyone. Avoid sharing cutlery and glasses. Spending time with your loved ones is great for your mental health. Stay safe and enjoy your time together.

Today is Orange Shirt Day. A day where we reflect on our country’s, and our community’s, darkest and cruelest part of history. Public figures, advocates, kids,... and many more will all don an orange shirt to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation. Many may not know, but there was a residential school on Keith Road from 1889-1959. Children as young as 4 were taken from their families and sent to the school. Many survivors of that institution are still alive today. Some, along with their families, are our neighbours today. We as a Council have committed to making the City a more inclusive, caring, and welcoming place for all. But we cannot progress on this commitment without reflecting on our past. A past that did not uphold these same values. I struggle to find the words to describe the sadness and anger I feel as a mother when we talk about residential schools. But it’s important we as community leaders take time to sit in that discomfort, and pain, and find those words so that we can begin to progress our understanding of how this trauma impacted many generations, in many profound ways. We have over the past few months seen a shift in the way we talk about systemic racism, police violence, and trauma. We need to acknowledge and value Indigenous lives. City Hall will be lit up orange to tonight as a symbol of our commitment to this. This Orange Shirt Day, I encourage everyone to take a moment to educate themselves further on our history and it’s impacts, visit the memorial that now stands on the site of North Vancouver’s residential school, and reflect on the children and families in our community who were failed in the most heartbreaking ways. Today I too will wear my orange shirt because in the words of Phylis Webstad, a residential school survivor who’s story inspired this day, every child matters. https://www.orangeshirtday.org/
On #OrangeShirtDay, we honour the victims and survivors of residential schools and show a commitment to ensuring that #EveryChildMatters. Here's Phyllis Webstad on the meaning of Orange Shirt Day.
