This Saturday, Nov 21, the Richmond RCMP, along with Santa, will be hosting a toy drop-off toy drive outside Lansdowne Centre between 8am and 1pm. Drive by and drop off a new and unopened gift for children or youth. Cash or monetary donations will also be accepted. To encourage both water and energy conservation, a joint City of Richmond and BC Hydro initiative is offering a total rebate of $100 to Richmond residents who replace their old clothes washer with a qualifying new ENERGY STAR model. It is illegal to possess, buy, sell or detonate fireworks and firecrackers in Richmond. These strict Firework Regulations are in place for a reason - to keep people safe. Bylaw No. 8306 (section 9.14) states: A person must not purchase, sell, display for the purpose of sale, offer for sale, give, dispose of or distribute fireworks to any person. A person must not possess, ignite, explode, set off or detonate fireworks except as permitted under a display permit.... Offences and fines include purchasing fireworks ($1,000 fine), displaying fireworks for sale ($1,000 fine), selling or distributing fireworks ($1,000 fine) or possession of fireworks without a permit ($200 fine). A zero tolerance approach will be taken.
