It's here! The 2021 Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary is now available online at ontario.ca/fishingregulations. Printed copies are expected to arrive this week at participating ServiceOntario and private licence issuer locations.
This year’s Chinook salmon egg collection may have looked a little different, but our staff were able to collect approximately 800,000 eggs! This is more than e...nough eggs to meet our stocking needs. After being reared at Normandale Fish Culture Station, these fish will be stocked into several locations around Lake Ontario, providing more angling opportunities for you! Thanks to Normandale and Lake Ontario Management Unit staff for all your eggs-cellent work!
Once again Normandale Fish Culture Station stocked retired Atlantic Salmon brood stock at the club ramp November 23 & 30. All fish have a "spaghetti" tag so please report all catches to the MNRF. A big thank you to the staff for their hard work
Last month, North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery completed a very successful wild Lake Trout egg collection. Volunteers used our Hooked ON Hatcheries video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikd5vKxpSjM) and CHP Fish Culture Guide (http://www.communityhatcheries.com//CH_FishCultureGuide.pdf) as a training tool before and during the collection.
UPDATE (December 3rd): The Chinook salmon alvin have been moved from the incubator trays to the small rearing tanks. The egg sacks are gone. The next step is to... get them to start eating the fine food. The alvin will spend several weeks in the small rearing tanks before being moved into the larger tanks. UPDATE (November 20th): The Chinook salmon have hatched :) The alvin will remain in the incubator trays for a couple of weeks until the egg sack is gone. Then they will be transferred to the two small rearing tanks. UPDATE (November 13th): The first Chinook salmon have started to hatch in the incubator trays. The Chinook salmon eggs look healthy. They should hatch over the next week or so Another cycle begins at the Bluewater Anglers fish culture station in Point Edward. We collected our 2020 allotment of 110,000 Chinook salmon eggs at the Mill Dam in Owen Sound last Friday. The salmon eggs are currently in our incubator trays. The salmon are expected to hatch in mid/late November, The Chinook salmon fingerlings will be release into lower Lake Huron in late April 2021.
