COOPER COLE 22.02.2021

Howdy folks, if you’re a regular ‘round these parts you know that #COOPERCOLE participates in a whole lot of international #art fairs... Well since 22 put a wrench in everyones travel plans, this year those art fairs moved to the World Wide Web. Go ahead and treat yourself to a swipe through of our 2020 digital art fair presentations with #ArtBasel and #Frieze. ... Frieze New York: #JagdeepRaina In his work, Raina engages with personal and public archives to examine histories of transnational migration by considering them in the context of fluctuating infrastructures of power. Raina’s practice works to conceptually disrupt this fixity and recover heterogeneity. In doing so, the artist reactivates the archive to reveal hierarchies of power that play out across class, gender, caste, race and geography. Art Basel OVR: 2020: #SaraCwynar Cwynar's grid of photographs reflect on the volume of media through which we gather information, specifically in the time of a pandemic, and the increasing difficulty in defining a self or a position against all this. Frieze London: #TauLewis and #BrieRuais This presentation reflected on Lewis and Ruais’ common concerns with materials, the narratives they carry, and their transformative potentials. Art Basel OVR: 20C: #ChrysanneStathacos Stathacos' Art Basel presentation focused on her work from the 1990s, a pivotal time in her practice when her work was deeply engaged in body politics, gender, and the AIDS crisis. #COOPERCOLE is tremely cited to debut a brand new body of images by #SaraCwynar this week as part of @artbasel OVR:2020 In these works, Cwynar works to replicate the digital common space through which we interface with the world. The works include images of protests, politicians, social media platforms, art historical paintings, celebrity before and after images, idealized ‘healthy’ bodies, self-portraits, natural and digital depictions of nature, and more. In com...bining these references together, Cwynar questions what it means to be a subject in relation to the current media landscape, in which it is increasingly difficult to grasp what is true or real. We here at #COOPERCOLE love our thoughtful patrons and cant get enough of how splendid this #embroidery by #JagdeepRaina looks in the home of Anjli and Parambir. Swipe to check out the intricate details of Jag’s piece Paradise Lost and how our friends are living with it. When speaking about living with the work, Anjli and Parambir said : As we discussed Paradise Lost this evening, we realized we were approaching the work in different but related ways. Parambir se...es the work as questioning the immigrant experience have we arrived at a truly promised land? Did we leave paradise behind? and Anjli sees the work as one of few that memorializes that ‘paradise’ through the culturally significant medium of weaving. By necessity or by design, many BIPOC trade in trauma certainly this work hints at it and so it’s really lovely living with work that beautifully depicts mundane moments of our lives For more info about #JagdeepRaina please contact the gallery. Yo listen up, here's the story About a little guy that lives in a blue world And all day and all night and everything he sees is just blue Like him, inside and outside... Blue his house with a blue little window And a blue Corvette And everything is blue for him And himself and everybody around 'Cause he ain't got nobody to listen I'm blue da ba dee da ba daa Da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa Da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa k, kay, everybody settle down. In all seriousness this painting by #PaulP is just too CL for the ‘gram. The subtleties and depth of this #monochrome really must be experienced in the flesh. For those unfortunate souls who won’t be able to view this piece in person, let’s just say that standing in front of this #painting captures a feeling similar to basking in the twilight glow of a late summers sky. Or perhaps its more like finding yourself falling deep into your lovers eyes as you release your inhibitions and passionately embrace coupling mind, body, and soul... provided your lover has blue eyes of course. When speaking about his artistic process, Paul discloses I would say about 9 or 10 (layers of paint). After the first 4 or 5 layers the drying time slows way down, so I need at least two weeks between coats. Lots of cobalt and cerulean blues. Now I see you asking yourself, has the artist entered his blue eriod? Only tie will tell I guess. Anyways, if you live in #Toronto you would be remissed to miss this and the other phenomenal paintings by #PaulP. in his current #art show up now at #COOPERCOLE. The gallery is open Saturday’s from 12-6pm so float on by. #dabadeedabadaa See more
