COVID-19 Clinic Update!
Exciting Clinic News!
Clinic Update - Temporary Clinic Closure
Employee Spotlight! Gloria Kanuka - Registered Physiotherapist Favourite part of working at Country Hills?... Working with a great team of people and having awesome patients that I get to help every day! Guilty pleasure! Expensive coffee Why you chose the field youre in? I ran track in high school and university and in the first couple years of doing this I experienced several different repetitive strain injuries. At first I would always just take a couple weeks off and the injury would go away. Unfortunately this didnt work because inevitably a few months later something else would start to hurt and the cycle would continue. At some point I started getting knee pain that just wasnt going away with my usual rehab routine so my coach recommended I see a physiotherapist. The therapist I saw took the time to listen to my whole story, looked at my body as a whole and how it was functioning and was able to figure out the different issues that were causing all of these injuries. They also helped me to understand what was going on with my body and gave me specific exercises and strategies to help prevent the injuries from recurring. I was blown away by the experience and after that I knew I wanted to be a physiotherapist. Basically I wanted to help people in the same way that physiotherapy helped me!
Employee Spotlight Arvin Kalar - Registered Massage Therapist My favourite aspect of working at Country Hills Physio is helping patients get back to what they enjoy most.... Gulity Pleasure! Eating a tub of smarties ice cream while watching sports Why you chose the field youre in? Growing up, I played soccer and did muay thai and jui jitsu. I picked up many injuries over the years and sought the help of physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy and acupuncture. It was a combination of education from the practitioners, my interest in the human body and my injuries that lead me to this field.
STAFF SPOLIGHT Nishia Richard - RMT Favourite Part of Working at Country Hills: The belly laughs I share with my co-workers and clients every day! When I go to work I feel like I am apart of a community and family. I love my job ... Guilty Pleasure: Greys Anatomy; makes me feel smart when I watch it because I know most of the terminology and Im addicted to the drama I suppose. Why I chose Massage Therapy: I chose Massage because I have always had a passion to help people, I really enjoy learning about the human body and its a job that keeps me active and on my feet.
From the roaring 20s all the way through to the 80s, yesterday was a blast from the past for us! #halloween2019
The end of the year is creeping up on us and for many that means our benefits reset soon. Dont let them go to waste, call or email today to get booked in before the new year!
Are you getting a response-based treatment? Mike has a good write-up to take a look at if youre wondering. The bottom line is the same treatment doesnt work for everyone. Your therapist should be checking their work and adapting treatment as needed. Check it out: https://mdkphysio.com/response-based-treatment/
Did you just run a 10K like us? Yes? Are you as sore as we are? Yes? Then come see us at the clinic so we can get you back to doing the things you love.
Mike is our ultra-running physio! He loves helping ALL runners. Check out his own site.

Happy New Year! Here is another injury story, from Nishia. I hear similar advice all too often. It is something along the lines of this: dont worry about rehab after having an injury or surgery, youll be fine. Well, even if you end up being fine-I would at least get checked! A lot of our patients would be in a better position if they did. The injury may heal, but the dysfunction as a result of the injury can remain. Lets make this a year of NOT hurting ourselves! ...:) This is from Nishia: "I once broke my arm snowboarding and was told by the surgeon that physio was not necessary. Being in the field that I decided to get some help from my fellow employees and it helped so much! I recovered a lot faster then the surgeon had predicted and was able to get back to massaging."
Dr. Jordan R. Sandham
Country Hills Physio and Maximum Potential Physio helping raise funds for Salvation Army at the 5km Santa Shuffle! Congrats guys!
Another injury story; this one from Kelly! "I was in a car accident in 2016 which led to attending physiotherapy a Country Hills Physiotherapy. Erin was my physiotherapist; she was amazing at getting me back to doing what I love: spending time with my family! The clinic had such an impact on me that I took on the position of Clinic Coordinator!"
Pic 1: from some old notes of mine showing how JUST THE MUSCLE can positively impact your entire body through exercise. Pic 2: neat infographic explaining the same thing but not specific to muscle tissue. Dont let the weather hold you back, folks! Gear up and get out there!
Ahhh... the weekend!
A month of anatomy is over and it is time to kick back and relax. Thank you so much to my amazing parents Martella and Jim Boulton and Colleen and Doug Kirby for this spectacular grad gift!!
Here is another injury story from our fearless leader, Vivian Overton. #roadtorecovery #countryhillsphysio "I learned how to snowboard as an adult when I moved to Calgary. Still petrified of heights and exposure, going on the chair lifts still makes me anxious, which means I always over think the offload at the top. Well, when I was in Whitefish, Montana last year on a great powder day, I over thought getting off the lift and got my board stuck and went head over board fa...ce-planting on the down-slope of the chair lift at the top. I landed hard on the back of my right shoulder and cranked my neck to the left to avoid eating snow. I carried on with embarrassment for the rest of the day, but could feel my neck getting stiffer and stiffer and my shoulder started clicking. When I got back to work on the Monday, I could barely move. Luckily, Arvin had an opening for massage at the end of my shift and that guy was a life-saver! After a 45 mins "hold your breath and dont scream" massage, I was able to move my neck and my shoulder didnt hurt anymore." See more
