One of the things we as Creeland'ers pride ourselves in, is that we keep the traditions as Michif alive, generation after generation

Today we honor Louis Riel; our Metis spiritual and political leader. He was wrongfully hung for treason on November 16th, 1885 for his resistance to the Canadian governments subjugation of his people. On this day, 135 years later, we honor him for his sacrifices and celebrate his life and the culture he died protecting. While awaiting execution, Louis Riel stated, "My people will sleep for 100 years, and it will be the artists who awaken our spirits again." In 1984 the Cre...eland Dancers were founded by Therese and late Ken Seesequasis, and by 1985 were sharing their dance style with audiences far and wide. Thus began a legacy of promoting the Metis culture through dance with relations across Turtle Island. Just as Louis Riel prophesied, 100 years later the artists had awoken that Metis spirit, and it continues to be strengthened year after year. #louisrielday See more

Today we had the tremendous honour of performing for survivors and Elders of Residential Schools at the Beardy's & Okemasis' Cree Nation #OrangeShirtDay commemoration event. We were grateful to join the community to hear stories, share in laughter, shed tears, and make that solemn, sacred commitment: we will remember.. More than 150,000 Indigenous youth were forcibly taken from their homes to attend Residential Schools often suffering terrible forms of abuse.... For the child taken, and for the parent left behind, we will never forget. #EveryChildMatters
