"Jack was born in Cumberland, BC, where he often loved to return, together with his family, to bring back fond memories of his elementary school days, and the days of running his family’s Chow Lee General Store. He was a distinguished Chinatown Pioneer, honoured twice by the Village of Cumberland. Jack moved to Vancouver to go to high school. He later met and married his beautiful and loving wife Jean, and together they proudly brought up their four fine children." Mr. Chow a...lso owned one of the most famous buildings in Vancouver, and perhaps the world, for its 2 story height and record narrow footprint. Rest in peace. https://www.dignitymemorial.com//burn/jack-chow-10055679JJ

Many Cumberlanders will be missing Santa’s Breakfast this year, the beloved traditional fundraiser for the Cumberland Community Schools Society, but some local leaders have figured out a way you can carry the spirit of Santa’s Breakfast forward. Each year at Santa’s Breakfast, one of the most popular attractions was the making of fresh cedar wreaths. Countless volunteers would work tirelessly collecting cedar boughs, bending hangers, fashioning wreaths, and collecting baubles... and doodads so youth and the youthful at heart could have the joy of decorating and displaying their wreath for the holiday season. In some years upwards to 500 wreaths were decorated in the space of 3 hours! This year, a few small but dedicated socially bubbled crews have made heroic efforts to collect all that is needed for the CCSS to offer you a traditional Santa’s Breakfast Wreath kit you can pick up and assemble at home. These pre-fashioned cedar wreaths are individually handmade and each one is different! Leadership students at the Cumberland Community School have stuffed bags with decorations and fasteners to go with your wreath, and you will be able to choose an additional individual bauble (or two, depending on supply) when you pick up your wreath. It’s a great and easy crafting project for kids at home, and it’s fun and fosters a sense of community connection when you walk around the Village and see what people have done with their wreaths! Wreaths are available by pre-registration and by donation (see event page to get a wreath ticket, Each ticket is worth one wreath https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/traditional-santas-breakfast-ta). Pick up is outside at the Village Square on Sunday, December 13th. Wreath receivers will be given a half hour pick-up window to avoid congestion, and we ask that you wear a mask while picking up to protect our wonderful volunteers. Proceeds from this project will go towards funding Cumberland Community Schools Society’s Healthy Food Program, After-School Activities and Community Services. Help CCSS to achieve their goal of ensuring all Village residents have equal access to good food, recreation, life-long learning, and a network of support. A huge debt of gratitude goes out to all the people who have made this possible together while staying physically apart: Mark Kouba Adam Kuzma Rick Dobson Marysol Kouba Vickey Brown Marianna LaViolette Craig Van de Merwe Miriam de Mol Carmen de Mol and the Leadership Students at CCS
