Last night, at 11:00pm, a citizen became suspicious of car with flashing blue and red dash lights that tried to pull him over as he travelled southbound on Yong...e St. near Mapleview Dr. #BarriePolice was called and it was determined that the 2011-2014 black Dodge Charger was not the Police. If in doubt, slow down, put the 4 way flashers on and call 911. This sharp eyed motorist realized that the car seemed to be too old to be a police vehicle and before stopping called police to see if his concerns were legitimate. This doesn't happen too often, but #BarriePolice quickly determined it was not one of our cars and that it was not the OPP or South Simcoe Police either. Remember, police vehicles are impecabley maintained, with proper functioning lights and are normally current model years. In this case, the driver didn't feel the car was really the police and he was right. Your safety is always a priority - know where you are travelling and where possible try to stop in a well lit area (in a plaza lot or under a street light). Police will always stop you in an area that is safe for you and for them as well. The majority of police officers always where uniforms and if they aren't in uniform are required to identify themselves with their badge and a photo identification card that clearly identifes them by name, their rank, the police service they work for and their badge number.

I cried when I found your daughter lying in a ditch, high on meth - But you didn't know I was devastated when I found the 32 year old veteran dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound - But you didn't know I missed my kids birthdays, school plays and family trips because I had to work - But you didn't know... I had nightmares about the 2 year old I found crushed under a truck tire while mom was inside buying dope - But you didn't know I really struggled with EVERY death notification I made to a family about their loved one - But you didn't know I was never comfortable at social gatherings because with the things I've seen, I can't trust anyone - But you didn't know I've seen things you could never even imagine - But you didn't know My job was hard on my family - But you didn't know I had problems, just like everyone else - But you didn't know The next time you see any first responder, remember that they are people first and there is no training in the world that prepares them for the things they see and do on a daily basis.
