I got to use our new Dogsafe Journal: The Ultimate Resource to Record Your Dog's Health, Wellness and First Aid these past two months during Lucy's cruciate injury, knee surgery and recovery.... and I love this thing! Yes, it totally helped keep track of injury signs, surgery notes, veterinary meetings, vital signs post-surgery, icing incision site, warming muscles, range of motions exercises, time/duration of walks and so much more. BUT, what it mostly helped with ... is mak...ing calm out of chaos. It helped me feel in control when things were not in control. Injuries and surgery are definitely disruptive for your dog, and they are disruptive for the human too. Everything drops into chaos! We manage of course, it's what's we do for our dogs, but hey, I'll take any help to alleviate the chaos, and the Dogsafe Journal did it. <3 :) More info on the Dog Journal, Cat Journal and our new PDF...instant download so you can print it yourself: https://www.dogsafe.ca/dogsafe-journal.html See more
Prevention. Prevention. Prevention. Time to review the pre-flight checklist! Wow. PS. has a happy ending. :) https://youtu.be/J_8mdH20qTQ

I get SO excited about small things when it comes to prevention or preparedness: here's how to get ready to respond to a poisoning situation (or inducing vomiting of other things sometimes) in advance by measuring out a dose of hydrogen peroxide in advance -- using a liquid medicine bottle!
Besides our network of talented Dogsafe Authorized Instructors who offer in-person courses in select cities, our Dogsafe eLearning gets to reach dog lovers even further afar and so thrilled to have our first Dogsafe Certified dog professional in Uruguay!! How cool is that!?! Congratulations Pierinna of DogFam Sicolgoia Canina!

Dogsafe Mini Tip: Do you have a ramp for your dog for just-in-case scenarios? Is your dog hesitant to walk on it? Maybe change the texture!

Dogsafe Demo Dog Lucy's cruciate ligament post-surgery rehab... of the belly rub kind:
Dogsafe Demo Dog Lucys cruciate ligament post-surgery rehab... of the belly rub kind:
It's been two weeks since Lucy had her cruciate ligament surgery and the rehab continues.... after 2 weeks of only going outside for bathroom breaks, we're now up to a 5 minute walk, twice a day. We're so used to going 3 and 4 hours and more! But....it's the small moments. The tiny moments of togetherness that are cherished. The long hikes will happen when they happen and for now, I'm just so grateful that she is here sharing her life with me. So today....today we settled on watching the sunrise in a most beautiful spot. A 2.5 minute walk from the car to the beach, where we snuggled on the logs and watched a new day start. Then walked 2.5 minutes back to the car where she walked up the ramp and settled inside for the ride home. I think we'll come again tomorrow.

We mourn the loss of one of our Dogsafe Demo Dogs .... Spirit .... who shared her life with Dogsafe Authorized Instructor Susan Ayotte. Most, if not all of us, know the pain of losing our 4-legged family members. Please send Susan some love & hugs by clicking that <3 Heart button <3 .... and then go hug your own dogs. <3 In Susan's words: "Spirit died in my arms today with the three people that brought her home and loved her so much surrounding her. Words can not describe t...he pain we feel. She was on amazing dog, with the strength of an army and heart of gold! She ended up in the wrong hands before we got her at a year old, she had puppies before a year old too, she also had seizures, which lead me to research seizures and because of that she had not had one in 5 years. She was attacked by a dog and almost lost her back limb and also had cancer twice and beat it! Spirit worked side by side with me, not only with dog grooming but she was my Dogsafe demo dog and she did the job well. How many dogs she may have saved by teaching their owners what to do. This dog touched so many hearts, everyone that met her always said there was just something about her. I am so blessed to have had her in my life. May she run free, with my Mom and Dad and all our family dogs!" See more

A Christmas note: We had a crazy winter storm blow through Dogsafe's Head Office last Thurs Dec 20 and our power, water, phone and cell coverage were all knocked out for five days ... and during that time, Google disabled our main [email protected] email account due to potential "suspicious activity". But ... we ARE still here and thank you for your patience as we sort that out and catch up with business when we can. In the meantime, please have a very Merry Christmas with your 2-legged and 4-legged family members and we'll see you all again in the new year! PS. that's my Dogsafe Demo Dog Lucy and yes, she likes wearing bows on her head and will leave it there for hours....she keeps me laughing! -- Michelle Sevigny, founder

Halloween can be a time where dogs get spooked and bolt. Meant to get that engraved ID tag but havent yet? Clip on a temporary tag until you do...avail at pet stores, or hardware stores (key labels). Temp IDs also great for when pro pet sitters or friends are looking after your dog (use their cell).
Happy 12th birthday to Dogsafe Canine First Aid Authorized Instructor Nina Houghtons lovely Demo Dog Extraordinaire.... DAISY!!!

As of today, marijuana is legalized in Canada (and was previously made legal in some US states). Please be mindful for the safety of your dog(s)... "Common symptoms of marijuana toxicity include sedation/lethargy, dilated pupils or glassed over eyes, dazed expression, difficulty walking and vomiting." Full details in attached article: https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com//marijuana-toxicity-pets/
You dont think they will slurp it, roll in it, or walk through it (and lick paws), but, you know, they're curious dogs! Prevention is best so be mindful of spills and have clean up supplies handy when working in the garage or yard. Need to respond to a poison scenario? Many factors will determine what action you take, join us in a Dogsafe 101 course for full details. https://www.dogsafe.ca/dogsafe-101.html
